As New Jersey suffered through its most sweltering July in memory—3 weeks of 90 to 100 degree temperatures, stifling humidity and a relentless sun—even the Jersey tomatoes were hurting. But the Colts from Christian Brothers Academy kept their cool. With the hilly state meet course, Holmdel Park, practically at its doorstep, CBA has done some heavy-duty base work with one of the finest collection of distance runners the sport has seen. Heat or no heat, the Colts are fixed on winning the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) championship for the second time in three years on the Portland Meadows 5K race course in Portland, Ore. The Brooks PR Invitational brings together the nations top track and field athletes from across the country to compete at the Dempsey Center in Seattle, Washington, one of the fastest indoor tracks in the nation. The meet consists of seven events the 60 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, one mile run, and two mile run. California is well represented sending 16 athletes to Seattle. Leading up to the meet we will spotlight these talented runners.

Highlights and Results from: NB Ocean State Inv. (RI), McDonald's XC Festival (VA), McQuaid Inv. (NY), Roy Griak Inv. (MN), Stanford Inv. (CA), Carlisle Inv. (PA), Jim Danner Inv. (OR), Culver Inv. (IN), Palatine Inv. (IL), LoboCat Inv. (CO), Albuquerque Academy Inv. (NM) & Midwest Meet of Champs. (OH) The best weekend yet.  That's an easy way to describe this weekend's national cross country action.  Most of the top teams in the land took part in an invitational, with some teams coming up very big.  US#5 York (IL) kicked off their season by winning the Palatine Invitational, one of the big highlights of the weekend thus far.
