Leading the charts yet again is Sadie Engelhardt. Engelhardt's 4:33.45 in the 1600 was the winning time at the CIF State Championships, where she later doubled to claim the title in the 800 as well. Following the star from Ventura HS, there are a dozen other girls who have all ran under the 4:50 mark, so it should not be a surprise to see a handful of qualifiers based off time to this year's State Championships.
Close to about a dozen 4:10's or faster on the boys side, which makes us wonder, is a sub-four minute 1600 possible this season? It may appear to be a far-fetched goal, but given California's recent growth in talent and depth, with the right circumstances it is not something that is completely out of the question. Carter Spradling of Clovis East HS leads the charts with his 4:07.64 that he ran at the Mt. SAC Relays in mid April last season.
Keep your eyes on this event as the season progresses because chances are there will be lots of shifting in the rankings as the week...
