This event makes us stay on our toes, and for good reason. Who doesn't love seeing a sprint finish where the athletes have to prove their coordination and fitness while leaping over hurdles?
The leading returner for the girls is Anisa Bowen-Fontenot, a junior from San Diego HS who put herself in the midst of the USATF U20 Championships last summer and ran a 00:13.76 in the 100H. Bowen-Fontenot placed fourth at the CIF State Championships that same season about a month prior to her big performance up in Eugene. A total of fifteen other girls will return with a time that is a second or less behind Bowen-Fontenot's leading mark, many of whom are seniors this season.
On the boys side, Cameron Williams of West (Merril F.) HS in the Sac-Joaquin Section is the sole returner from the 2023 CIF-State Championships. Williams' best is a quick 00:14.02, and after his upsetting performance at the state meet, this year is going to be a nice opportunity for a well-deserved comeback. There are ...
