We are three weeks away from the official start of California's cross country season, so it's crucial to take a look at the state's arguably most important distance, 3 miles.
Unlike our top returners from the CIF State XC Championships list, the Southern Section boys are dominating with some of the fastest times. Maximo Zavaleta of ML King leads California with the top 3-mile returning time of 13:56, followed by Jace Deledonne (Riverside Poly) at 14:15, and Aidan Antonio (Woodbridge) at 14:17.
However, fast times aren't exclusive to Woodbridge. Cooper Castleberry of Poway demonstrated this with his 14:25 clocking at a league cluster meet, proving that sub-14:30 is possible anywhere with the right effort and conditions.
Expect once again for these fast times from Southern California to lead headlines this fall and highlight just how dangerous the Southern Section could be at the State Meet.
