Most Improved Girls 3 Miles Times From Class of 2028 So Far

In this week's most improved list, we are looking at the year-over-year improvements from the class of 2028 so far this season. Last year, these 9th grade girls had their first cross country race or they ran the first race of their entire lives. Now some of these girls are leading their team to victory, securing huge individual wins, and setting new personal records.

Mira Costa's Megan Shamaly is the most improved runner with a 3 minutes and 52 seconds improvement compared to her freshman season. Shamaly's breakthrough race happened at the Rosemead Invitational, where she finished third in the sophomore race with a PR of 18:26.

Amelie Ortiz of Westlake ran 18:20 at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic to improve significantly compared to last season. As a sophomore, she has already improved by 2 minutes and 19 seconds this season, helping Westlake win a varsity girls' race on Saturday night at Woodbridge. Her improvement will help a rising Westlake team as we approach the championship season soon.
