To celebrate another unforgettable year, MileSplit California is recognizing the athletes, programs and moments that defined the season through our annual end-of-year awards.
MileSplit CA Girls' Athlete of the Year - Jaslene Massey, Aliso Niguel (SS)
Awarded to the California athlete whose accomplishments throughout the 2025 track and field season had the greatest impact on the state's all-time history.
Jaslene Massey dominated the throwing scene in California and across the nation, ranking #1 in both events. The future Oregon Duck swept the CIF State throwing events, the USATF U20 Championships, and Nike Outdoor Nationals. She ends her high school career with a discus personal record of 196-4 feet (U.S. #2 all-time) and a shot put personal record of 55-4.75 feet (U.S. #5 all-time).
MileSplit CA Boys' Athlete of the Year - Maximo Zavaleta, Martin Luther King (SS)
Awarded to the California athlete whose accomplishments throughout the 2025 track and field season had the greatest impact on the state's all-time history.
Maximo Zavaleta completed an undefeated 1600m season in California with an astonishing eleven performances under 4:10. His win streak ended at the CIF State 1600m and 3200m Championships, the first since 2013. His consistency and historic performances cemented his status as one of the greatest distance runners in state history.
MileSplit CA Girls' Race Video of the Year - CIF SS Masters 4x400m
A fan-voted award recognizing California's top freshman or sophomore track and field athlete of the season.
This year, Long Beach Wilson assembled the four best 400m runners in California history on the same team. At the CIF Southern Section Masters meet, they ran the third-fastest 4x400m time in U.S. high school history, 3:33.83.

MileSplit CA's Ms. Do Everything - Braelyn Combe, Santiago (SS)
Awarded to the race that generated the most excitement, attention and lasting impact throughout the 2025 season.
Braelyn Combe lived up to the "Ms. Do Everything" title at the CIF State Championships by winning the 1600m and 800m before anchoring Santiago to another state title in the 4x800m relay, helping the Sharks finish second in the team standings. She also finished the season as California's leader in the 800m, 1600m and 3200m while owning a 55.31 personal best in the 400m.
MileSplit CA's Mr. Do Everything - Ejam Yohannes, Loyola (SS)
Awarded to the athlete who demonstrated the greatest versatility by excelling in multiple disciplines throughout the track and field season.
Few athletes displayed more versatility than Ejam Yohannes during the 2025 season. The Loyola standout won the CIF State 400m title while posting marks of 11.03 in the 100m, 20.85 in the 200m, 45.73 in the 400m and 1:51.04 in the 800m, proving he could excel from the sprints through the middle distances.
