Morgan and Makenna Herbst Ahead of 2025 Track Season

The Herbst Twins are among California's top returners in 2025, making significant statements at the start of this year. Earlier this month, Makenna Herbst won the 117th Millrose Games 600m with the fifth fastest time in U.S. high school history, clocking in at 1:28.61. Morgan Herbst is the reigning champion in the 400m hurdles at the Nike Outdoor Nationals, and her 55.11 at the Spokane HS Invitational currently leads the state of California.

In the fall, they announced their commitment to the University of Arkansas to continue their running careers. Head Coach Chris Johnson and his brother, Boogie Johnson, will coach the Herbest twins at Arkansas. They have successfully coached outstanding 400m hurdle and 800m athletes such as Daliah Muhammad, Britton Wilson, Anna Cockrell, and Shafiqua Maloney.

Before joining the Arkansas family, they must finish their senior season at Carlsbad High School. During our interview, they expressed their enthusiasm for the season and shared how they are preparing for the indoor national races in March.

Makenna Herbst will compete in the 800m at New Balance Indoor Nationals in Boston during the weekend of March 13-16.

Morgan Herbst will compete in the 400m at Nike Indoor National in New York the same weekend.
