CANDIDATES
Jaelyn Williams (East Lake)
After a stellar performance at the CIF State XC Championships last week, Jaelyn Williams delivered an outstanding effort at Nike Cross Nationals. Williams ran 16:58 to finish third, bringing California back on the podium for the first time since 2013. This Saturday, she'll be back competing at the Brooks XC Championships, aiming to improve on her 3rd-place finish.
Braelyn Combe (Santiago)
Last week, Braelyn Combe was slightly disappointed after not qualifying for NXN at the CIF State XC Championships, but she bounced back at the Brooks XC West Regional Championships. Combe ran 17:51 to finish second and earn a spot at the Brooks XC Championships this Saturday.
Elliana Patterson (Christian)
Calling this year a breakout season is an understatement for Elliana Patterson after she ran 17:53 to finish third and qualify for the Brooks XC Championships. The junior has made significant improvements this past season, and she will get to run in front of a hometown crowd in San Diego this Saturday.
Amaya Bharadwaj (Palo Alto)
At Nike Cross Nationals, Amaya Barwaldja ran 17:45 to finish 20th place as California's second highest finisher. This completes a dream senior season for Barwaldja, who has shown up in every big race this season.
Millie Bayles (Trabuco Hills)
Millie Bayles managed to run a couple of seconds faster than last season, but her 18:04 to finish 35th was enough to help Trabuco Hills finish as the top California team at NXN. Trabuco Hills finished in 11th place overall as a team after getting an at-large spot from their 3rd place finish at the CIF State XC Championship.
