CANDIDATES
Maximo Zavaleta (Martin Luther King)
The Rob Breener Boys Championship race was historic for several reasons, highlighted by Jackson Spencer breaking the Woodward Park course record. Maximo Zavelata also made history by breaking his school's 5K record with a 14:44 to finish second. The senior finished as the top Californian because he was the only one to go toe-to-toe with Jackson Spencer until the Utah standout pulled away at 2 miles up Killer Hill.
Olly O'Connor (Viewpoint)
On Friday, Olly O'Connor stole the show in the Steve Ward Boys Championship race with a 4:32 last mile. O'Connor secured his victory with a 14:47, making him the third fastest individual of the entire meet. This is another phenomenal race from O'Connor at this season's premier California cross country meets.
Connor Bilodeau (Jesuit)
In his second official race of the season with Jesuit, Connor Bilodeau finished as their top runner with a 15:02. The junior transferred to the national powerhouse this summer and is making a strong impact in his first races for the Marauders. He helped beat the U.S. No. 3-ranked team, Herriman, in the boys' championship race, which Jesuit narrowly lost at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic.
The fastest sophomore at the Clovis XC Invitational was Elias Thornson of Davis High School, who broke 15 minutes in the 5K for the first time. He finished fourth in a time of 14:54, continuing a phenomenal sophomore season. Last year, Thornson finished 34th in the unseeded varsity race, so this performance firmly places him as one of the top runners in California.
Thomas Yohn (Woodbridge)
This Performer of the Week nomination stems from a thorough review of the results, yet it remains a truly deserving performance. Thomas Yohn, a junior from Woodbridge, finished as the third man on his team for the first time this season to help secure a 3rd place finish for Woodbridge. All season, Yohn has been the No.3 runner, but an excellent PR of 15:19 propelled him to the No.2 runner and a great team finish.
