CANDIDATES
Oliver Hunter (Dana Hills)
Oliver Hunter has been one of the most consistent runners in the Southern Section, and at the South Coast League Finals, he shone brightly by taking a huge victory. He ran 14:21 to win the highly competitive league and continue a 13-season tradition of a Dana Hills boy winning the individual title.
Lyle Mideiros (Claremont)
Lyle Miederos has developed a strong cross country season resume under the radar this year, highlighted by impressive victories. This past weekend, he ran a personal record of 14:26 for 3 miles to take home the Palomares League Finals individual title.
Blake Sigworth (Palos Verdes)
It's been a great 2 weeks for Blake Sigworth as he gears up for a deep run in the CIF postseason. First, the Palos Verdes Senior ran 4:11 to outlast the best competition in South Bay, LA, at the Warrior Mile. Then he won the Pioneer League Finals with an impressive 3-mile time of 14:31.
Derek Luna (Rio Mesa)
In Ventura County, Derek Luna has been a perennial threat in every cross country race this season, but it feels like last week was a true breakout. He ran 14:39 to win the Channel League Finals by 25 seconds. This is an enormous personal record for Luna, who broke 15 minutes for the first time on a 3-mile cross country course.
Jonah Vasquez (Cathedral)
At the Del Rey League XC Finals, Jonah Vasquez ran 14:56 to lead Cathedral to a team victory and secure the individual championship. This is Vasquez's first time breaking 15 minutes on a 5K cross country course, which means his fitness is in great shape heading into the postseason.
