California Boys Marching to 800m PRs in March

An elite group of boy 800m runners always forms in California, and we are beginning to see the fruit before some of our biggest distance meets this season. Before the Meet of Champions HS Distance Classic and the Dublin Distance Fiesta, let's take a look at the 800m boys who've already hit PRs and who are on the verge of massive improvement. 

Eight boys have already gone under 1:55 during the outdoor season and two boys have already ran 1:51 indoors.Alden Morales ran 1:51.11 at the UW Invitational at the beginning of February, while Wyland Obando just opened his season at Nike Indoor Nationals with a 1:51.68 to finish 2nd in the nation.

Among these big performers, some have seen huge improvements like Gus Armstrong of Long Beach Poly and Jacob Facenda of Ayala. Armstrong has improved by 4.94 seconds and is consistently running under the 2 minute barrier now. Facenda broke the 2 minute barrier for the first time this season and now has a PR of 1:55, totaling his improvement to 4.69 ...
