PREVIEW CIF-Southern Section Division Prelims

* * *

The Southern Section initiates the 2022 CIF track and field postseason with four divisional preliminary meets on Saturday with field events at 11 a.m. and track events starting at noon. The schedule is the same for all division locations: Trabuco Hills HS (Division 1), Ventura HS (Division 2), Estancia HS (Division 3), and Carpinteria HS (Division 4).

Athletes and relay teams compete to advance to the May 14 CIF-SS Division Finals at Moorpark HS as the next step in staying on track to compete in the CIF-State Championships, May 27-28 at Buchanan HS in Clovis, the first CIF State Meet since 2019.

To move forward, the top nine (9) competitors with the best marks in each field event will advance to the finals. In the track events, each heat winner, plus the next fastest time to total nine (9) athletes will advance to the section finals. All ties must be broken either by thousandths of seconds in the running events or jump-offs in field events for second place through 11th place. Two alternates will be determined for each event. (Check out the track bulletin at for more information.)

Follow all four division prelims via the live apps provided by timers Finished Results (Divisions 1 and 3), and Royal Results (Divisions 2 and 4).

In the following pages, MileSplit's Mark Gardner takes a detailed look at the Division 1 preliminary meet, followed by overview previews of Divisions 2-4. Enjoy!
