CIF-SS D-3 PRELIMS PREVIEW

(at Estancia HS)

D-3 is loaded with plenty of stars and storylines which very well could start on the girls side with distance group from JSerra and the sprint group at Calabasas.

The Coyotes have the top qualifying times in both relays and depth in the sprints with Zanae Woods, Zoe Ray, and Lahela Ray leading the way.

JSerra is among the state's elite distance squads and that will be on display here with senior Ashlee Gallegos and junior Anastasia Snodgrass coming in with the top qualifying marks in the 800m, sophomore Georgia Jeanneret leading the way in the 1600m, and freshman Brynn Garcia the top qualifier in the 3200m.

La Canada sophomore Arielle McKenzie is the defending champion in both the 800m and 1600m. Monrovia senior Madeleine Conte is the defending champion in the 300m hurdles and was the runner-up in the 100m hurdles last June. She has the top qualifying marks here in both. JSerra junior Hanna Barmettler looks to add points in the hurdles.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame will be led by defending 400m champion Ava McCumber Gandara, and defending shot put champion Hope Gordon

Oak Park junior Kymara Brodie is the defending champion in the 100m but Harvard Westlake junior Alyssa Thompson comes in with the top qualifying times in the 100m and the No. 2 time in the 200m (behind McCumber Gandara).

Corona del Mar senior Caroline Glessing won the 200m and was second in the long jump in '21 and comes in with the top qualifying mark in the horizontal jump.

On the boys side, the headliner is Servite senior and USC-signee Max Thomas, who is the state leader in the 200m and is tied for second in the 100m. But the short sprints are far from a lock for the future Trojan. Chaminade senior Patrick Ize-Iyamu has the top qualifying mark in the 100m and St. John Bosco senior Rayshon Luke is the state leader in the 100m at 10.32.

Cathedral has the top qualifying times in both relays and is led by top 400m qualifier William Mullins

Luke's teammate at SJB, Jaden Smith won the 400m title last June and placed second in the 200m.

St. Francis senior Dario Rock is among the state's elite 110-meter hurdlers as is Santa Margarita junior Roman Mendoza in the 300 hurdles. Corona del Mar senior Jason Plumb dropped a huge 24-5 (nwi) long jump PR (CA No. 2, all conditions) at league finals.

Harvard Westlake senior Will Sheehy, Pasadena senior Isaiah Givens, and Servite senior Jared Steins are the top qualifiers in the 1600m with Givens leading the field coming into the 3200m.

St. John Bosco senior Camryn O'Bannon is the defending champion in both the long jump and triple jump and was the division runner-up in the 400m last June. South Pasadena senior Iwankiw Nikolas is the top qualifier to defend his shot put title and is No. 2 in the discus throw behind JSerra junior Brendon See
