The 2021 MileSplitCA All-State Junior Boys Cross Country Team is a subjective team based on results from the CIF-State Championships within the class as well as contributions to top teams, and section divisional results.

FIRST TEAM


CHRIS CAUDILLO (Clovis/CS)


Ranked fourth in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 14:59.20 for sixth place in the Division I race.  Central Section Division 1 champion, running the Woodward Park course in 15:18.44, the fastest time at the meet, regardless of class. Won four other races, including the post-season Team National Regional in a 5K PR of 14:53.20. That time ranks CA No. 5 in the class for 5K. Ran a 14:09.30 PR for 3 miles at Woodbridge, placing sixth in the Sweepstakes race. That time ranks fourth in the class for 3 miles, sixth in CA regardless of class, and ninth U.S. regardless of class. Placed sixth at Clovis (15:00.00) with the No. 4 time in the class at that meet. RAMSES CORTES (Great Oak/SS)


Ranked ninth in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:30.90 for 13th in the Division I race in leading Great Oak to second place behind Newbury Park. Also ran No. 1 for the Wolfpack as it placed second to Newbury Park in the Southern Section Division I race. His time of 15:11.60 on the Mt. SAC course placed 13th in the D-1 race and ranked sixth in the class at the meet. Also ran No. 1 for Great Oak at RunningLane, and at Clovis, as Great Oak placed second in the Boys Championship behind Newbury Park. (DeAnna Turner photo)


HECTOR MARTINEZ (Newbury Park/SS)


Ranked sixth in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:15.10 for ninth in the Division I race as Newbury Park set meet records for scoring (16) and team time (73:25). Ran No. 5 for the Panthers at Woodbridge (14:38.10) and at Clovis (15:15.90). Ran No. 6 for NP at State (seventh among scoring runners), and at RunningLane (55th overall, 21st among scoring runners). Ran No. 7 for the Panthers at Southern Sections (12th in the race, 10th among scoring runners). His 3-mile PR from Woodbridge ranks ninth in the class and his 5K PR from RunningLane ranks CA No. 4 in the class. His 5K PR during the CIF season from State ranks sixth in the class. SEAN MORELLO (Albany/NC)


Ranked fifth in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:09.90 for third place in the Division IV race leading Albany to the team title. North Coast Section Division 4 champion (15:16.30) in leading his team to the division title. His 5K PR from State ranks No. 5 in the class for meets within the CIF season. AARON SAHLMAN (Newbury Park/SS)


Ranked third in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 14:46.40 for fourth in the Division I race as Newbury Park set meet records for scoring (16) and team time (73:25). That time is the third-fastest ever by a junior boy, and equals the 10th-fastest ever in a D-I race. His time for second place of 13:42.30 on the 3-mile Silver Lakes course at Woodbridge ranked U.S. No. 2 for that distance, regardless of class, and No. 3 all-time on that course. Placed sixth on the flat and fast 5K RunningLane course in Huntsville, Alabama in 14:14.38 as Newbury Park won the national championship race. That time ranks U.S. No. 6 for 5K regardless of class. Placed third at Clovis (14:43.50, equalling the 13th-fastest time ever on the Woodward Park course) and third at the Southern Section D-1 final in 14:52.80 as part of a 1-6 Newbury Park sweep. LEO YOUNG (Newbury Park/SS)


Ranked first in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 14:28.00 for second in the Division I race as Newbury Park set meet records for scoring (16) and team time (73:25). That time is the third-fastest ever on the course, fastest ever by a junior boy, and second fastest ever in a D-I race behind only senior teammate Colin Sahlman, who won the race. His record-setting time of 13:38.00 on the 3-mile Silver Lakes course at Woodbridge, ranked No. 1 in the nation for that distance, regardless of class. Placed second on the flat and fast 5K RunningLane course in Huntsville, Alabama in 14:05.07 for second as Newbury Park won the national championship race. That time ranks No. 2 U.S for 5K regardless of class. Placed second at Clovis (14:33.20) and fourth at the Southern Section D-1 final in 14:52.90 as part of a 1-6 Newbury Park sweep. LEX YOUNG (Newbury Park/SS)


Ranked second in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 14:30.30 for third in the Division I race as Newbury Park set meet records for scoring (16) and team time (73:25). That time is the fifth-fastest ever on the course, second-fastest ever by a junior boy, and third-fastest ever in a D-I race behind only senior teammate Colin Sahlman and twin brother Leo Young. His time for third place of 13:44.40 on the 3-mile Silver Lakes course at Woodbridge, ranked No. 2 in the nation for that distance, regardless of class. Placed third on the flat and fast 5K RunningLane course in Huntsville, Alabama in 14:05.49 for third as Newbury Park won the national championship race. SECOND TEAM


Caleb Cavanaugh (Oakdale/SJ) -- Ranked 13th in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:37.40 for 12th in the Division III  race. SJS Division 3 champion, running 16:26.90 on the 5K Willow Hills course.

Juan Chantaca (San Clemente/SS) -- Ranked 14th in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:37.60 for 24th in the Division I race. Ran No. 1 for his team and ranked 12th in the class at the Southern Section D-1 final (15:34.9).

Mathew Donis (Highland/SS) -- Ranked 11th in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:35.50 for 21st in the Division I race. Was the first non-Newbury Park junior across the line at the Southern Section D-1 final, placing 10th overall in 15:07.6.

Alex Lamoureux (College Park/NC) -- Ranked 10th in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:35.10 for sixth in the Division II race. Placed fourth in the NCS Final.

Ian Rosen (Grossmont/SD) -- Ranked 12th in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:37.20 for seventh in the Division II race. Runner-up in the SDS final in leading his team to the division title.

Roland Ruckmann-Barnes (Granada/NC) -- Ranked eighth in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 15:22.90 for second in the Division II race as Granada placed second to San Luis Obispo. Runner-up in the NCS final in leading his team to the division title.

Parker Simmons (Crescenta Valley/SS) -- Ranked seventh in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in a 15:17.40 PR for 11th in the Division I race. Jonah Bazerkanian (Royal/SS) -- Ranked 15th in the class at the State Meet (15:37.90) for ninth in the Division II race.

Tommy Bell (Mt. Carmel/SD) -- Section Division 2 champion, running the Morley Field course in 15:30.70, No. 2 in the class at that meet and eighth overall. (Patrick Corsinita photo)

Manuel Correia (Point Loma/SD) -- Ranked 19th in the class at the State Meet (15:44.80) for 20th in the Division III race.

Daegan Cutter (Redwood/NC) -- Section Division 2 champion, running the 3-mile Hayward HS course in 15:22.90, second-fastest in the class behind Sean Morello and sixth overall. 

Jacob Niednagel (La Costa Canyon/SD) -- Section Division 3 champion, running the Morley Field course in 15:16.60, fastest in the class at that meet and fifth overall.

Wesley Selby (Nevada Union/SJ) -- Ranked 16th in the class at the State Meet (15:40.90) for 17th in the Division III race.

Jacob Swanson (Jesuit/SJ) -- Ranked 18th in the class at the State Meet (15:43.80) for 28th in the Division I race. Ran No. 2 and placed fourth as Jesuit won the SJS Division 1 title.
