State's Top Boys Set for Southern Section Finals

Division I Boys Finals Preview

The debate is not whether Great Oak is the best team in California but rather if they are the best team in the United States!  With a great competition brewing, we project that five squads are locked in for a state meet berth while up to six teams are fighting for those last two spots!

Great Oak has been absolutely superb this season, dominating the competition within the state and beyond.  With a 'B' team would that also make the state meet (the numbers prove it!), they have been to rest their top boys and focus on the larger goal which lies beyond this Saturday.   Tyler Tickner proved to the state that he is one of the best at the Clovis Invitational while Gabriel Abbes has been his right-hand man.  But, even with the crew fighting illness at Mt. SAC, in stepped Chris Verdugo as he rolled to a 15:00 in that course!  Sophomore Mateo Joseph and the much improved Cameron Hylton have added additional strength to go along with Noah Nevens, and Cole Sawires-Yager.  Great Oak is seeking their fourth straight divisional title while this will be the eighth time in the past nine years that they qualify for the California State Championships.

Who will challenge Great Oak?  West Ranch and Dana Hills are the next two in line as both have had tremendous seasons, despite facing some adversity.  West Ranch was always known for their 1-2 punch of Evan Bates and Isaiah Seidman but they now have a solid cast behind them.  Sophomore Dylan Gatua is one of the most improved in the division while transfers Hunter Romine and Alexis Romero are looking to keep up with Gatua.  To challenge for the title, those last three scorers need to combat the endless depth of Great Oak.  Moving in from Division II (third place last year) has not been an obstacle as this will be their fourth consecutive State Meet berth.

Meanwhile, Dana Hills had to overcome out-of-section transfer of one of the best in the state.  Simon Fuller has stepped up to fill that void with Carrick Denker not too far behind.  Canyon-transfer Cole Stark has steadily moved up to that top spot this season while Garrett Hough and Hayden Stein continues to roll.  The Orange County and South Coast League champs do not have any plans but to compete with Great Oak and West Ranch up front.   This will be their 13th straight season of qualifying for the California State Meet while they have finished in the top three the past five years.

Based on our projections, Long Beach Poly is in position to take fourth place while Crescenta Valley's boys will be right there to push them.   Long Beach Poly is headlined by William Frankenfeld, who is a favorite for the individual title.   But, his interchangeable cast behind him includes Ronan Stagg-McMahon, Daniel Bautista, Alex Matos, Zane Witter, and Christopher Yontz.   Almost missing their prelim heat last week did not phase them whatsoever as they easily won and comfortably finished within eight seconds of one another.  Six seniors will toe the line as they seek another trip to the State Meet after their sixth-place finish in 2017.

Crescenta Valley has been THE most improved squad in the division!  Ranked between 16th and 20th in our preseason projections, the displayed their summer improvement early on at the Cool Breeze Invite.  Dylan Wilbur was the individual champ there but Manan Vats has since joined him up front.  Where the real improvement came was in the legs of Grant Lauterback, Erik Faeustle, Evan Doloszycki, and Jack Myers.  With everything clicking the right way, the Pacific League Champs will make their way their second straight state meet.

After the five we've projected to advance, there is where it gets interesting as there are only two spots remaining but yet, we have six schools that are fighting for them!

The Big VIII league rivals of Roosevelt and Martin Luther King will meet up once again while the majority of their squads are underclassmen.  Roosevelt's junior duo of Raul Chavez and Michael Sahagun will give them a head start on the scoring but ML King has been one of the most improved squads in the section in 2018.  Garrett Vasta leads ML King as their lone senior scorer.  Supporting Vasta with a condensed pack are Mitchell Machuca, Austin Fortenberry and sophomores Edgar Ortega and Francisco Zavaleta.  When both squads hooked up at their league finals two weeks ago, ML King held the advantage until the last 200 meters when several places were exchanged, giving Roosevelt the league title with a slim three-point victory.  Now that Roosevelt is 100 percent healthy with the return of Aaron Lieberman along with Ricardo Sainz and freshman Andres Chavez, expect the Mustangs to challenge for a top five spot.  They were the divisional and State runner-up last year as this should be their third straight year of moving onward to the State Meet.  For ML King, they did not qualify to last year's finals and have only made the State Meet once in 2014.

Led by Andrew Martinez (pictured), Ayala has is as healthy as they have been all season and clicking at the right time.   Jacob Villegas and Yael Grimaldi provide solid support as Ayala seeks their first State Meet berth since 2012.   Ko Akabori and Ryley Welch may be the ones that solidify that top seven spot for the Bulldogs but there's not a lot of breathing room here.

Arcadia is a wild card as it all depends on which team shows up.  Underclassmen Jacob Hsu and Tianyuan Pei have emerged up front for the Apaches.  But, the lineup beyond those two has been interchangeable as Jack Ruan should emerge to lead their chase pack.  Arcadia qualified for the state meet ten times in an eleven-year span (2005-2015) but it has been several years since they've returned.

Coming from obscurity, San Clemente has been steadily improving the past two seasons.  But they surprised with the best race yet and easily captured the Sea View League title!   Truly a team that races as a pack and boasting sub-30 second scoring gaps, their lineup is interchangeable.  Elijah Sech, Denilson Lopez-Guerrero, Patrick Riley, Caleb Mettler comprise a formable quartet while the Tritons have had four different boys occupy that fifth scoring slot in the last four races.

La Serna is the sleeper as they look to get back to the squad that consistently finish with sub-30 second scoring gaps!   Jumping in and out of our projections for a state meet spot, the quintet of Marco Perez, Gerald Baltzer, Jesse Montez, Andrew Hernandez, and Aidan Arredondo look to put it all together and leapfrog several squads here.   The Lancers are seeking their first-ever state meet berth!

One a last note - do not count out Yucaipa and Trabuco Hills who have shown potential to battle for one of those seven slots as well.

10) Michael Sahagun (Roosevelt)
others: Justin Briscoe (Yucaipa), Carrick Denker (Dana Hills), Dylan Gatua (West Ranch), Cameron Hylton (Great Oak),  Mateo Joseph (Great Oak), Andrew Martinez (Ayala), Cole Stark (Dana Hills), Manan Vats (Crescenta Valley), Chris Verdugo (Great Oak), Dylan Wilbur (Crescenta Valley).

Division II Boys Finals Preview

This is the most intriguing matchup from all 10 races as Claremont and Newbury Park -- ranked nationally in the MileSplit50 -- are the front-runners for the title, but one can never count out Loyola!   Ethan Danforth is the defending champion and despite missing most of the season healing, is poised to defend his title.  But, Nico Young of Newbury Park (Frank Bellino photo above winning at Woodbridge) -- the most improved elite runner in California from a year ago -- has put together a better season.  This was the toughest group of individuals to rank thus the reason why we included so many athletes!  These are just a few of the stories intertwined in this epic showdown!

Like we mentioned in our preseason preview back in August, it will come down to the front runners of Newbury Park against the depth of Claremont.  We had Claremont ranked at the top and, three months later, still lean towards them holding on for the win.  Their lineup is interchangeable while the all-star talent has been well rested and ready to roll for these last several meets!   Ryan Cowgill, Aaron Reyes, Vicente Huerta, Jacob Moran, and Jack Keough-Langsford have formed a group that looks to rival that of Great Oak.  They are the defending champs and this will be their fifth year in a row of qualifying for the California State Meet.

Once we heard that Newbury Park moved to Division II (along with Loyola), we began bouncing the numbers off the wall.   Young has proved that this past sophomore track season was not a fluke and captured the victory at the Woodbridge XC Classic.  Despite a mid-season setback, Jace Aschbrenner has come on strong these past several weeks and now right there back with Ethan Ronk.  Nicholas Goldstein, Kyndall Long and freshman Colin Sahlman will have to task to keep up with Claremont after their front-runners establish the early lead.  They finished in that dubious eighth place spot a year ago in Division I but did qualify in 2016.

Perhaps, Loyola possesses THE most interchangeable lineups in the section.  Well, one thing that they do possess is one of the most impressive resumes in the Southern Section over the last 20 seasons!  This is the most improved squad in the division when you consider that they graduated six from last year's group.  Anthony Stone is the lone returner from that squad while Roberto Ruelas and Mason Ratkovich have stepped into that top spot at times.  Vinnie Giachini and Hudson Godfrey have also finished in their top three scorers at times this season.  This will be their 12th consecutive season of qualifying for the California State Meet.

Since this past track season, we had Thousand Oaks very high on our radar.  With their best race of the season, they could very well challenge the three powerhouses ranked ahead of them.   Michael Mireles has stepped it up and become one of the best in the division while Mitchell Burr has successfully transferred his 800-meter speed over to the XC course.   Ethan Darden, Jay Lesny and Vianey Ellison and Michael Cooper have all placed within their five this season.  This will be their first trip to the California State Meet since their championship squad of 2008!

After those four powerhouses have been established, the fight for those next three State Meet slots will be a dogfight between El Toro, Simi Valley, Saugus, Woodbridge, and Arroyo!

El Toro is led by Mitch Groff while Jonas Hartline and Juan Torres have kept him in their sights this season.   Moving in from Division I, El Toro was fifth in that division a year ago.  Four others have occupied the four and five scoring slots this season while Jason Leland and Brandon Tressler have held those spots the last two competitions.  Wisely pacing themselves with a conservative racing schedule, the Chargers plan on making it back to the State Meet once again.

Simi Valley got it clicking at last month's Clovis Invitational and with a similar effort, should find themselves making the trip back to Woodward Park next weekend.  Josh Moncada has solidified that top spot for the Pioneers.  Beyond him, their tightly-packed lineup features Bradley and Nick Williams, Ian Gerth and Alejandro Diaz.  The Coastal Canyon league champs are seeking their first trip to the State Meet since 2013.

Saugus has rebounded very well after graduating most of their squad from 2017.  The Foothill League runner-up is led by Jacob Kaufmann.   Sophomores Nick Serrano and Blake Gallardo darted up into those next two scoring slots and have made a huge impact on the development of this squad.  Five others have scored in the top five but it was Zach Fineberg and Josh Duarte who held those spots at the Foothill League Finals.  As you will traditionally notice with the Centurions, their strength based training benefits them over that last mile.  This could be their third straight year of qualifying and eight in the past 10 years.

This is the best boys' team in Woodbridge school history as they have improved dramatically over their 16th place finish from a year ago!   Brett Knutson and Caleb Terefe headline the Warriors up front as both are having tremendous seasons.  Ben Choi, Ryan Welton, and William Talbert all impressed on this same course last month at the Riverside Invitational.  With everybody performing like what we witnessed in that race, this should be the first time that Woodbridge advances to the California State Meet!

Arroyo is in the mix but will need to run their best race of the season and improve beyond their top two scorers.  The Knights are led by one of the best in the division in Noah Hibbard (right, in blue).  He is supported by Josh Orellana who continues to improve.  Saket Sama and Jonathan Lopez occupy those third and fourth scoring lots.  This crew has come a long way from their 22nd place finish from a year ago, and if they can elevate in those last scoring slots, they could surprise.

On the outside looking in, Capistrano Valley is led by Ty Savely.  Despite a mid-season injury to one of their top scorers, this crew is one of their best in school history and would love nothing more than to prove that they are a State Meet team!  Underclassmen Andrew Bautista, Nathan Trueman, and Richard McClain will play critical roles if they are to pull the upset and break into the top seven.

Meanwhile, Murrieta Mesa (led by Cole Havens) and Redlands East Valley (led by Matthew Casillas) impressed on the Riverside Cross Country course last month at the Inland Empire Challenge.  If Murrieta Mesa can replicate that same performance, they will leapfrog right into the State Meet conversation!

Division II Boys - Top Ten Individuals:
1) Ethan Danforth (Canyon-CC)
2) Nico Young (Newbury Park)
3) Alexis Garcia (Newport Harbor)
4) Noah Hibbard (Arroyo)
5) Jace Aschbrenner (Newbury Park)
6) Ryan Cowgill (Claremont)
7) Daniel Rush (Golden Valley)
8) Robert Ruelas (Loyola)
9) Ethan Ronk (Newbury Park)
10) Anthony Stone (Loyola)
10) Aaron Reyes (Claremont)
Others: Mitchell Burr (Thousand Oaks), Matthew Casillas (Redlands East Valley), Mitch Groff (El Toro), Cole Havens (Murrieta Mesa), Vicente Huerta (Claremont), Jacob Kaufmann (Saugus), Jack Keough-Langsford (Claremont), Brett Knutson (Woodbridge), Michael Mireles (Thousand Oaks), Josh Moncada (Simi Valley), Mason Ratkovich (Loyola), Logan Underwood (Canyon/Anaheim)

Division III Boys Finals Preview

Up front, Rubidoux's Kevin Ramos will take to the Riverside Championship Course one last time.  After setting the course record (14:25.1) back in October, Ramos is simply tuning up for next weekend's State Meet with the goal to qualify for NXN once again.  Ramos purred along the course last week, never looking pressed, and crossed at 15:03 despite the dry and windy conditions.  He will easily defend and repeat as Division III champion.

But after Ramos is where it gets interesting!   We had Palos Verdes as heavy favorites to earn their first title since 2012.  But at Mt. SAC, West Torrance, despite sitting out a major scorer and graduating six, beat the Sea Kings and rocketed back to the top of our charts!   Now we find ourselves with a great battle on hand.

Seeking their fourth straight divisional title (they claimed the Div. II title in 2015), the Pioneer League champs have reloaded as well as any squad in the Southern Section!  West Torrance is led up front by Jake Parker and Nehme Awad while Niccolo Esquivelzeta is fully healthy and part of this terrific trio.  Josh Murray, Augustine Ahn, and Shingo Morita round out this crew.  Off the radar for over half the season, West Torrance has wisely shown up with their best when it counts the most and will qualify to the State Meet for the fifth year in a row.

With that, Palos Verdes is still the slight favorite to many.  With an interchangeable roster, William Teets and Nathan Lantz (bib 2844 with Tate Nygren) have occupied those top two spots for most of the season.  But Brandon Farnsworth, Wade Nygren, and Ryan Shikiya provide the cast that looks to hold off West Torrance.  The strength of this group lies in their ability to condense their scorers into a sub-30 second gap.  This will be the 12th time in 13 seasons that Bay League champions move onward to the California State Meet.

Indio has formed a solid crew that is locked in for a State Meet spot.  The Desert Valley League champs are led by Esahi Bravo, Victor Urbina, and Aaron Perez.  Jesse Diaz has also been just behind that trio but Indio has had a different boy in that fifth slot in every race this season.  At their league finals, Luis Contreras occupied that role.  Tenth place a year ago, the Rajas should make the state meet for the first time since 2013 and looked very secure to take third place.

Esperanza is trying to make the State Meet for the first time since 1991 and will look to push Indio for that third spot.  The Crestview League champions have steadily improved over the last two seasons, with this year's squad making that breakthrough as a State Meet team.  John Welch and Zane Cox have formed an impressive 1-2 punch up front.  Meanwhile, Ryan Manes, Josh Moore, Reed Piette, and Seth Laske has come together as a tight pack that interchange between those last three scoring slots.

We have four squads fighting for those last three State Meet spots as Brea Olinda, Agoura, Corona del Mar and Moorpark are all in the mix.

Corona del Mar impressed last week with a tight 14-second scoring gap as they cruised through the prelims.  Ian Turner has been the top boy this season with Joseph Cianfrani, Duncan Taylor and Nick Pence not too far behind.  CDM's depth should win out here as Ethan Bollman continues to improve.  Coming off an 11th place finish from a year ago, many would be surprised that it's been since 2010 that the Sea Kings have made the California State Meet!  This crew plans on changing that.

Crestview League runner-up to Esperanza, Brea Olinda's young crew has exceeded our preseason expectations.  Shane Gaffikin (bib 2424 at right) has stepped up to be their front-runner while Ryan Daedler has provided ample support.  Jack Hannum is their lone senior while Jonathan Manara has been strong all season.  With everybody clicking, the Wildcats should secure their 10th straight trip to the California State Meet.

Agoura is seeking their first trip back to the State Meet since they had back-to-back trips in 2014-2105.  Moving from Division II, they are led by Ryan Koepnick who is one of the best in the division.  Bryan Gasser and Alex Mikaelian have been solid contributors all season.  Beau Bordelon and Seth Hardy will play a crucial role in regard to closing out their scoring and looking to finish in the top seven.

Moorpark finished just behind Agoura at the Coastal Canyon League finals two weeks ago.  League champion, Keith Murray has been on a role and will compete for the runner-up spot as an individual.  Now the rest of the group needs to respond if they look to join their teammate up in Fresno next weekend.  Ethan McGregor and Liam Pereira along with Alejandro Uribe will be the difference if they leapfrog themselves into one of those seven spots.

Beyond those eight squads, Bonita, St. John Bosco and Oak Park are on the outside looking in.

Division III Top Individuals:
1) Kevin Ramos (Rubidoux)
2) Osvaldo Cervantes (Nogales)
3) Keith Murray (Moorpark)
4) Shane Gaffikin (Brea Olinda)
5) William Teets (Palos Verdes)
6) Ryan Koepnick (Agoura)
7) Nathan Lantz (Palos Verdes)
8) Aaron Perez (Indio)
9) Jose Magana (Santa Ana Valley)
10) Sebastian Sawyer (Oak Park))
others: Nehme Awad (West Torrance), Esahi Bravo (Indio), Ryan Daedler (Brea Olinda), Niccolo Esquivelzeta (West Torrance), Devin Hightower (South Hills), Wade Nygren (Palos Verdes), Jake Parker (West Torrance), Ian Turner (Corona del Mar), John Welch (Esperanza), Victor Urbina (Indio)

Division IV Boys Finals Preview

The Laguna Beach boys are one of the best squads in the Southern Section and will score the lowest total of any divisional champion this weekend!  The over/under on the Breakers is 35 points as they should dominate this division with ease.  Led by Sebastian Fisher and Ryan Smithers, the limited racing schedule will have this crew ready to break free over these next two weeks.  Florida-transfer, Logan Brooks, Zach Falkowski, Mateo Bianchi, and Cal Neilson help comprise one of the best small schools teams we've seen in some time.  Second place a year ago, this will be their first title since 2009 after an additional runner-up plaque in 2013.

The battle for that runner-up plaque is an intriguing one with JSerra, Foothill Tech, and South Pasadena.

JSerra gets the nod here as they get a huge head start on the competition with Anthony Grover and Peter Herold slated to go 1-2, just like they did at the 2017 finals.  Can their remaining scorers hold off the others is the question.  In 2017, JSerra slipped down to seventh place after all scorers crossed.  This year, with more experience, Matthew Burkhardt and freshman Brennan Food will provide a much stronger supporting cast.  The Running Lions will qualify for their sixth consecutive trip to the California State Meet and eighth in the past nine seasons!

Foothill Technology graduated most of their state meet squad from a year ago.  Not to worry, as they have already reloaded and are just as good as that 2017 squad that finished in third place.  Henry Pick is one of the best in the division while younger brother, Oliver, both lead the Dragons.  Jason Messner, Zen Li, and Daniel Montes round out the scoring five.   This will be their fifth consecutive season of qualifying to the California State Meet.

South Pasadena moved in from Division III, where they finished eighth in 2017.  Kai Dettman leads the Rio Hondo league champs.  Nicolo Porcu, Sam Clark and Alekzander Grijalva-Moreno are the key elements that at their best, could elevate this squad into that runner-up spot to their first-ever California State Meet.

The fight for fifth place should be between our defending champs, Cathedral and Ocean View.  Cathedral has had a tough time developing that chemistry that saw them capture the division title a year ago but Tyriq Granillo continues to be their front-runner.  Capturing another Del Rey League title, Bryce Granillo, Gabriel Galaz, Andrew Cantu, and David Salazar round out their roster.  Beware for 2019, as their top four are all underclassmen.  This should be their fifth straight year of moving onto the State Meet while they finished in fifth place in 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2016... (and 2018 perhaps)

Ocean View moved in from Division III after taking seventh place and qualifying for the State Meet a year ago.  Jason St. Pierre and Edwin Montes headline for the Seahawks.   Miguel Flores, Michael Hernandez, and freshman Adrian Ramirez look to propel this squad back up to Fresno with a top-five finish.

Burroughs of Ridgecrest consistently makes the longest drives (along with Mammoth High) in the Southern Section.  They plan on making another drive up to Fresno next week as well but have to hold off Harvard Westlake and Chaminade for that last state meet slot.

Sophomore Bryce Hill and Josh Washburn lead the Burros, who is one of the more improved squads in the division.  Ben Washburn will play a valuable role as well.  If they solidify that seventh place spot, this would be their first trip to the California State Meet since 2003!

Harvard Westlake has a strong top two in the legs of Andrew Shibuya and Keon Mazdisnian.  Diego Ahmad and Peter Sykes could be the difference makers as the Wolverines and Burroughs are very similar in projected placings.  Harvard Westlake finished in that dreaded eighth place spot a year ago, but look to make this their eighth trip to the State Meet in the past 11 seasons.

Chaminade lost on a tie-breaker to Harvard Westlake at the Mission League finals two weeks ago.  Christian Simone has come on strong this sophomore season.  Michael Morrone and Walker Doucette provide the needed support if they are to not only avenge that match up at league finals but to also claim a state meet spot!  This would be their first trip to the State Meet since the 1990's!

Division IV Top Individuals
1) Anthony Grover (JSerra)
2) Peter Herold (JSerra)
3) Sebastian Fisher (Laguna Beach)
4) Ryan Smithers (Laguna Beach)
5) Tyriq Granillo (Cathedral)
6) Henry Pick (Foothill Technology)
7) Logan Brooks (Laguna Beach)
8) Garrett Miller (Crean Lutheran)
9) Zach Falkowski (Laguna Beach)
10) Andrew Shibuya (Harvard Westlake)
Others: Mateo Bianchi (Laguna Beach), Kevin Cortez (Costa Mesa), Kai Dettman (South Pasadena), Isaiah Hernandez (Bishop Amat), Bryce Hill (Burroughs/Ridgecrest), Keon Mazdisnian (Harvard Westlake), Cal Neilson (Laguna Beach), Oliver Pick (Foothill Tech),  Owen Serricchio (La Canada), Christian Simone (Chaminade).

Division V Boys Finals Preview

Racing more than any other squad projected to advance onto the state meet (from all divisions regardless of gender) Woodcrest Christian looks to regain the crown that they held from 2005-2009.  Braulio Alvarez leads this group while James Chebahtah, Riley Batista, Steven Martinez, and Mackenzie Thomas have all played roles in their scoring five.  Possessing more depth than any other squad in the divisions, we have the Royals as slight favorites.  After taking seventh last year, this will be the 16th time in the past 19 seasons that they advance up to Fresno for the California State Meet!

St. Margaret's is led by Jackson Adelman and Robbie Graham.  Calvin Capelle has provided valuable support but if the title is to be earned, it will be seniors Christopher Chan and Matthew Colglazier that bring it home.  The Tartans will claim their 10th trip from the past 11 seasons to the California State Meet and will be their first title since 2012.

Flintridge Prep will qualify for their 22nd consecutive State Meet berth!  Take a step back and think about that one...22!  No other boys' squad in the Southern Section can claim that distinction.  They are seeking their seventh title in that span (finished second a total of nine times!).  Carson Hasbrouck and Bennett Oakes while Hudson Billock will weigh in heavily in what place the Rebels finish as a team.  Regardless, it's a solid bet that they will finish in the top three once again.

Our defending champions, Thacher is led by Ford Shaper (at right above).  He was fifth as an individual last year and one of our favorites to win this year.   Meanwhile, Winslow Atkeson has shown some nice improvement.  But, for the Toads to qualify for the State Meet for the 10th time in 12 seasons, they will need Augie Delves-Broughton and Alejandro Wilcox to secure those next scoring slots.

With one of the best Division V resumes, Desert Christian of Lancaster has rebounded from their 15th place finish a year ago.  Before that, they were the team champions in 2016 and had made the State Meet in seven of the previous eight seasons.  Ethan Laubach is a slight favorite to capture the individual championship after he qualified as an individual to the State Meet in 2017.  With freshman Brent Roetcisoender ready to take over next year, those two went 1-2 at the Desert Mountain League finals against Mammoth two weeks ago.  It may very well come down to those squad's fifth scorer on which one finishes in the top five as a team.

Mammoth didn't even qualify last year as a team in 2017 and have now elevated up to become a State Meet team!  Guy LaBorde leads the Huskies but is supported by a crew that features David Caddick, Jacob Schroder,  Aidan LeFrancois (mom is the head coach and a huge reason for their program's improvement) and freshman Iain Ferguson.  At least their trip to Fresno will be shorter as they are slated to move forward to their first ever State Meet berth.

Fighting it out for that last spot to the State Meet will be Ontario Christian, St. Bonaventure, Chadwick, and Viewpoint.   Jarod Belden and John Mark Mendoza lead Ontario Christian while Adam Corugedo is one of the division's best in representing St. Bonaventure.  Chadwick is led by Frankie Glantz, who looked solid at last week's prelims.  Finally, our Gold Coast League champions, Viewpoint, have a head start with Ronnie Orosky and Miles Clark up front.  They will need to hold on is they look to jump over these aforementioned squads and to a State Meet berth!

Division V Top Individuals
1) Ethan Laubach (Desert Christian)
2) Ford Shaper (Thacher)
3) Ronnie Orosky (Viewpoint)
4) Adam Corugedo (St. Bonaventure)
5) Braulio Alvarez (Woodcrest Christian)
6) Jackson Adelman (St. Margaret's)
7) Nick Montijo (Providence)
8) Carson Hasbrouck (Flintridge Prep)
9) Frankie Glantz (Chadwick)
10) Matt Rutzen (Maranatha)
10) Robbie Graham (St. Margarets)
Others: Winslow Atkeson (Thacher), Miles Clark (Viewpoint), Alex Esquivel (Pius X St. Matthias), Guy Laborde (Mammoth), Luke Nataupsky (Sage Hill), Bennett Oakes (Flintridge Prep), Angel Perez (Pius X St. Matthias), Brent Roetcisoender (Desert Christian/Lancaster), Wyatt Sarkisian (Brentwood).
