MEETS ON TAP 2022 Stanford Track & Field Invitational

SATURDAY FIELD EVENTS

Boys Discus (Meet Record: Kami Kashmiri, Reno-Nevada, 214-11 '87)
Whipping through the field events, JSerra will bring more than a strong distance group as they will also have the best discus thrower in the field with Brendon See. He is the only thrower in the field who has thrown over 160 feet.

Girls Shot Put (Meet Record: Jessica Pressley, Laguna Creek (SJ), 49-4 '98)
The girls' shot put competition will feature two of the better throwers in California. Feyi Olukanni of Clovis East has a best of 42-2 this season and that is the clear best mark in the field. Rebel Tuinuknafe of Orange Lutheran has thrown further than that in the past but has yet to throw over 40 feet this season. Teammate Pesi Tauaika has thrown over 39 feet and will be looking for a top 3 finish.

Girls Pole Vault (Meet Record: Greta Wagner, Los Gatos (CC), 13-0.25 '13)
The favorite to win the competition here is Maria Carrillo's Lily Mulligan. She has a lifetime best of 13-0 and could challenge the meet record on a good day. The next best vaulter is Alison Sahaida of Oak Ridge who has a best of 12-4.

Boys Triple Jump (Meet Record: Ken Frazie, Mission (SF), 50-6 '81)
The best jumper in this field doesn't even have a track at his school. University senior Sean Huckleberry instead gets to practice at the world-famous Kezar stadium and has already jumped a lifetime best of 46-0. He will be the clear favorite to win this event before he faces much stiffer competition at Arcadia.

Girls Triple Jump (Meet record: Brittany Daniels, Merrill West (SJ), 43-1.75 '05)
Three girls will compete for the Invitational title here. All three have soared past 38 feet at some point in their high school careers and they are Marie Jones of Terra Linda, Jessi Barry of Valley Christian and Megan MacKenzie of Los Altos.

Girls High Jump (Meet record: Celia Willis, Clovis West (CS), 6-0 '88)
The meet record will survive another year as the era of the 6 foot high jumper appears to be one from the past. Chloe Hudson of St. Ignatius and Elizabeth Churchill of Aptos have both cleared a lifetime best of 5-7 and will compete for the title here. Tia Stapleton of Fairfield cleared 5-6 last year and should not be overlooked.

Girls Discus (Meet record: Pamela Amaechi, Lincoln (SF), 169-10 '17)
Feyi Olukanni may have competition in the shot put but it is highly doubtful that she will be challenged at all in this event. She has by far the longest throw of all the competitors with a best of 153-7 which also currently leads the state of California in this event.

Boys High Jump (Meet record: Maurice Crumby, Balboa (SF),F 7-4.5 '83)
This is always a tough event to predict as many jumpers have personal bests around the same mark. The best of 6-6 belongs to Ray Oldham of Davis. Luke Buddie of Woodside has jumped a best of 6-5 which is just ahead of the 6-4 mark of Joey Nations of Simi Valley and Adrian DeLena of St. Ignatius.

Boys Shot Put (Meet record: Kami Kashmiri, Reno-Nevada, 62-5 '87)
Three throwers in this field have surpassed 50 feet. The furthest throw of 57-5 belongs to Jacob Kiesman of Valley Christian SJ. The second best mark of 54-6.5 was established by Joe Harbert of Archbishop Riordan at the K-Bell Invitational earlier this spring. Brendon See of JSerra has also thrown over 50 feet and will need a new best to break into the top two here.

And that's my best attempt to identify the top competitors this coming weekend. Feel free to include any deserving athletes/teams that I may have missed in the comment section below. You can also chat at us at @MilesplitCA on Twitter.
