The 2021 MileSplitCA All-State Junior Girls Cross Country Team is a subjective team based on results from the CIF-State Championships within the class as well as contributions to top teams, and section divisional results.

FIRST TEAM


AISHLING CALLANAN (Peninsula/SS)


Ranked third in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:35.40 for third place in the Division II race. Placed second in the Southern Section Division 2 Final, running the Mt. SAC course in 17:06.7, fastest in the class at that meet. Top-10 qualifier at Eastbay West Regional earning a spot on the West Team at the National Finals in San Diego. Her time from State ranks third in the class for 5K races during the CIF season. ANNA CHITTENDEN (Mira Costa/SS)


Ranked sixth in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:57.10 to place sixth in the Division II race while helping her team to the school's first State XC title. Ran third for her team as it won its first Southern Section title since 1982, covering the Mt. SAC course in 17:56.0 to place eighth in the D-2 race. Dropped 16:36.20 PR for 3 miles at Woodbridge for 10th place, which ranked as the sixth-fastest 3-mile time in the class nationally. ELIZABETH FETTER (Palo Alto/CC)


Ranked fourth in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:44.50 for sixth place in the Division I race. Central Coast Section Division 1 champion, running the Crystal Springs course in 17:58.70. Won five races, including Lowell (where her time of 16:36.5 ranked second at the meet), and the Large School race at Clovis (18:08.00). GRACE HUTCHISON (Buchanan/CS)


Central Section Division 1 runner-up, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:39.44. Ran No. 2 for Buchanan at Woodbridge (16:36.70 PR for 3 miles) and Clovis (17:41.90). Followed up an uncharacteristic State Meet by returning to her usual spot scoring No. 2 for the Bears at RunningLane Nationals (17:28.15) and helping Buchanan to second-place and subsequently a No. 3 national ranking by MileSplit. Her 3-mile time from Woodbridge ranks fifth in the class. Her time from RunningLane ranks third in the class for 5K. ANNA MCNATT (McClatchy/SJ)


CIF-State Division I champion. Ranked first in the class at State, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:07.50. Her time ranks U.S. No. 13 in the class for 5K. Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 champion, running 17:26.80 on the 5K Williow Hills course in Folsom. Her time of 16:35.30 for ninth at Woodbridge ranks as the fourth-fastest 3-mile time in the class nationally. Ran 17:33 for fifth at Clovis on Oct. 9 as the top junior at that race. Dropped 26.10 seconds on the same course by the Nov. 27 State Meet. Top-10 qualifier at Eastbay West Regional earning a spot on the West Team at the National Finals in San Diego. REVERE SCHMIDT (Santa Fe Christian/SD)


CIF-State Division V champion, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:19.10, a PR for 5K. San Diego Section Division 5 champion, running the Morley Field course in 17:51.40, a PR for 3 miles. SYDNEY SUNDGREN (Buchanan/CS)


Ranked second in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:30.40 for third place in Division I while leading Buchanan to a second consecutive team title. Central Section Division 1 individual champion, 17:35.12. Her PR time of 16:03.30 for third at Woodbridge ranked as the No. 4 clocking for 3 miles in CA and ranked U.S. No. 6. Won six races during the season Her 16:59.99 on the flat and fast course for 20th at the Garmin RunningLane National Championship in Huntsville, Alabama ranks U.S. No. 11 in the class for 5K as Buchanan placed second earning a No. 3 national ranking by MileSplit. SECOND TEAM


Ellie Buckley (Campolindo/NC) -- Ranked 11th in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:04.50 to place fifth in the Division III race. North Coast Section Division 3 runner-up, running the 3-mile Hayward HS course in 17:42.20 while leading her team to a sixth section title. (Center in Pat Rhames photo above)

Kelli Gaffney (Great Oak/SS) -- Ranked eighth in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:59.10 to place ninth in the Division I race. Ranked second in the class at the Southern Section Final, running 17:27.7 for third in the Division 1 race. 

Ailish Hawkins (Newbury Park/SS) -- Ranked 12th in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:06.60 to place 15th in the Division I race for the team runners-up. Placed fifth in the Southern Section Division 1 race, running the Mt. SAC course in 17:35.7 as Newbury Park won the team title.

Katie Kopec (Whitney/SJ) -- Ranked seventh in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:57.30 to place seventh in the Division II race. Sac-Joaquin Section D-2 champion, running the 5K Willow Hills course in 18:07.60.

Ashlyn Leath (Clovis North/CS) -- Ranked ninth in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:00.90 to place 10th in the Division I race. Placed fifth in the Central Section Division 1 race (18:11.99). Placed second at the Team Nationals Regional with a 13-second week-over-week improvement at Woodward (17:47.80).

Brianne Smith (Quartz Hill/SS) -- Ranked fifth in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 17:47.40 to place seventh in the Division I race. Placed third in the Southern Section D-1 race, running the Mt. SAC course in 17:39.3. Her time at the State Meet ranked 11th in the class for the season. Her 3-mile time at Woodbridge (16:57.70) ranked 11th in the class for the season.

Lauren Soobrian (Los Altos/CC) -- Ranked 10th in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:02.40 to place 11thin the Division I race. Won the championship race at Team Nationals Regional in a 5K PR of 17:40.60, a 21.80 week-over-week improvement on the Woodward Park course.


THIRD TEAM


Mallory Asis (Mira Mesa/SD) -- Ranked 19th in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:26.50 to place 25th in the Division I race. Placed sixth at the San Diego Section D-1 final (18:04.30), third in the class at that meet.

Carly Foster (Granite Bay/SJ) -- Ranked 14th in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:15.50 to place 13th in the Division II race. Placed second in the Sac-Joaquin Section D-2 race on the 5K William Jessup University course (18:11.90). 

Samira Kennedy (Castilleja/CC) -- Ranked 20th in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:30.20 to place 2nd in the Division V race. Central Coast Section D-5 champion (18:20.70). (Bib 232 in DeAnna Turner photo)

Audrey MacLean (Redwood/NC) -- Ranked 18th in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:20.10 to place 16th in the Division II race. North Coast Section Division 2 runner-up (17:56.40)

Allura Markow (Dana Hills/SS) -- Ranked 15th in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park ourse in 18;17.20 to place 14th in the Division II Race. Placed fifth in the Southern Section D-2 race at Mt. SAC (17:38.2).

Caroline Mendyk (Buchanan/CS) -- Ranked 17th in the class at the State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:19.20 to place 20th in the Division I race running No. 4 as Buchanan defended its division title. Placed seventh at the Central Section Final (18:16.87 PR on the Woodward Park course), running No. 5 as the Bears won the title. 

Sydney Rome (Yorba Linda/SS) -- Ranked 13th in the class at the CIF-State Meet, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:09.50 to place sixth in the Division III race. Placed third in the Division 3 race at the Southern Section Final, running the Mt. SAC course in 17:47.7. Won the Junior Girls race at Eastbay West Regional (18:56.00) on the 5K Mt. SAC layout.
