The 2021 MileSplitCA All-State Sophomore Boys Cross Country Team is a subjective team based on results from the CIF-State Championships within the class, contributions to top teams, and consideration to section divisional results.

FIRST TEAM


JOSHUA BELL (Templeton/CS)


The fifth-fastest boy in the class at the State Meet, placing 18th in the Division III race in 15:41.80. Central Section D-3 champion. Top 2024 boy on the course at the Clovis Invitational, 15:29.80 for second in his race. (Patrick Corsinita photo)


EVERETT CAPELLE (St. Margaret's Episcopal/SS)


Fourth in the class at the State Meet, placing seventh in the Division V race in 15:41.30, PR for 5K. Ranked 10th in the class at the Southern Section final, placing fourth in D-4 (15:38.70). No. 1 in the class at Cool Breeze (15:09.80). (DeAnna Turner photo)


LUCAS COHEN (Albany/NC)


Ran No. 2 for the Division IV team champion at the State Meet. Also ran No. 2 for the NCS D-4 team champion. No. 7 in the class at State, running 15:46.30, and No. 2 sophomore in that race behind Emmanuel Perez. (DeAnna Turner photo)


DEV DOSHI (Newbury Park/SS)


Regular top-seven runner on the best team in the nation. Ranked No. 3 in the class at the State Meet, placing 26th in the historic Division I race in 15:40.60 as the Panthers crushed the team time record. Ranked No. 1 in the class at the Southern Section final, running 15:00.00 at on the Mt. SAC course for sixth place behind five teammates. Third in the class at Woodbridge (14:58.20). GRANT MORGENFELD (Palo Alto/CC)


Top runner on the Central Coast Section Division 1 champion, running 15:17.40 for third place on the Crystal Springs course. Eighth in the class at State, running 15:46.80 for 34th in the D-I race. No. 2 in the class at Clovis, running 15:30.20 to win his division. (DeAnna Turner photo)


JASON PARRA (Millikan/SS)


Top boy in the class at the State Meet, placing 15th in the Division I race in 15:31.60. No. 2 in the class behind Dev Doshi at the Southern Section Divison 1 race, (15:05.60) for eighth place and only the second non-Newbury Park boy across the line. EMMANUEL PEREZ (Cathedral/SS)


No. 2 in the class at the State Meet, placing 10th in the Division IV race in 15:36.60, leading Cathedral to a fourth-place finish. SECOND TEAM


Josh Chu (Ponderosa/SJ) - Fastest in the class at the SJS finals, placing second in the D-2 race. No. 3 in the class at Clovis (15:42.30) for fourth in his race. No. 9 in the class at State (15:51.70).

Connor Cougevan (Davis/SJ) - Ranked 10th in the class at State (15:52.20). Ran No. 3 for Davis at the SJS Final, ninth overall in the D-1 race as his team placed second. Fifth in the class at Clovis (15:49.70).

Brett Ephraim (San Clemente/SS) - Sixth fastest time in the class at the State Meet (15:45.20). Placed 29th in the D-I race running No. 3 as San Clemente placed fourth. Ran No. 3 as the Tritons placed fifth in the Southern Section D-1 final. 

Max Fields (Palisades Charter/LA) - Los Angeles City Section Division 1 champion with the fastest time at the meet (15:22.50). Third in the class at Mt. SAC (15:40.80) for second in the D-1 race. No. 19 in the class at State (16:10.30).

Zachary Gibson (Santa Margarita/SS) - Sixth fastest time in the class at the Southern Section Final for 12th place. Ranked 12th fastest in the class at State for 27th in the D-III race, the No. 2 sophomore in that race behind Josh Bell.

Omar Reyes (El Camino/SD) - Ranked 11th in the class at State (15:54.50), No. 6 in the class in the D-I race. Third in the San Diego Section final (15:33.40) behind two seniors. No. 1 sophomore in the SDS merge by 22 seconds.

Colton Walker (Vacaville/SJ) - Third in the class at the SJS Final (16:27.30) and fifth in the D-2 race for the team champion. Ranked 13th in the class at State (15:57.50). No. 2 in the class at Woodbridge (14:54.90). (Bib 1835 in Patrick Corsinita photo above)

THIRD TEAM


Aiden Aldana (St. John Bosco/SS) - Ranked 15th in the class at State (15:58.40 PR for 5K).

Sam Dresick (Clovis West/CS) - Ran No. 2 for the section D-1 team runners-up. Ranked 17th in the class at State (16:05.70).

Owen Franck (Mira Costa/SS) - Consistent back-end scorer for Southern Section D-2 champion, State third-place team.

Weston Greeneish (San Luis Obispo/CS) - Made up 43 positions over the final mile as the No. 5 scorer to help lift SLO to the State D-II title. (at left in DeAnna Turner photo above)

Emmanuel Hernandez (Cathedral/SS) - Ranked 13th in the class at SS Finals and 14th in the class at State (15:58.20 PR for 5K).

Carter Spradling (Clovis East/CS) - No. 1 in the class at CS Final, placing fourth in D-1. Ranked 18th in the class at State. 

Parker Stickney (Mira Costa/SS) - Ran No. 5 for section D-2 team champion and State third-place team.
