2019 Sacramento Meet of Champions preview

800 Meters

Girls Meet Record: Alex Kosinski Oak Ridge 2:07.84 2007 (6:40pm)
Boys Meet Record: James Levine Golden Valley (Merced) 1:48.85 1997 (6:50pm)

The favorite to win this event is Mountain View St. Francis sophomore Isabelle Cairns. She has the fastest time entered in this field at 2:12.90 and has a nearly undefeated season save for one loss at the Arcadia Invitational. She has the capability of winning the race from the front or via a kick so she will be a strong favorite here. She will be challenged by the best 800m runner from the Northern Section, Trinity senior Lauren Harper. She is coming off her fastest time of the season of 2:13.46 at the Arcadia Invitational. Other contenders will be Gregori's Briseida Garcia-Meza (2:14.10) and Isabelle Fauria of Sacramento St. Francis (2:14.13).

The top three competitors in this field should be very familiar with each other. They all come from the same section and have raced each other at multiple invitationals this season. The fastest time recorded so far this season belongs to Chase Gordon (Eric Turner photo above) of Jesuit at 1:53.06. He is scheduled to double here so may be racing the 800 after a hard 1600. Armijo's Nixon McKenzie has been one of the top half-milers in his section since his freshman year and has a best of 1:54.33 so far this season. Vanden senior Quinton Alexander is the third-ranked SJS competitor in this event and has a best of 1:54.65.
