WATCH: Ethan Edgeworth Finds Another Gear, Clocks 4:02 Mile

HUNTSVILLE -- Caden Leonard made the first big move with 300 meters left, rallying past four others in a race for the clock at the RunningLane Track Championships on Saturday at Milton Frank Stadium.

Ethan Edgeworth got the hint.

The Cold Springs (AL) senior countered roughly 150 meters later, going to lane two for the pass and later successfully owning that move as he recorded a new personal record and an Alabama state record of 4:02.27 in the mile.

Like all good high school milers, Edgeworth measured his strategy when it counted the most and closed in 58.9 seconds. The Tennessee recruit surpassed his former best of 4:03.96 and clocked the third-fastest time in RunningLane history.

Marist junior Tommy Latham followed in second in 4:03.00, while Leonard was third in 4:04.02, Adam Burlison was fourth in 4:04.56 and Corbin Coombs was fifth in 4:05.91.

A total of 10 athletes in the championship final broke 4:10, while five more broke 4:10 in the sub-elite heat.
