2019 Sacramento Meet of Champions preview

100 Meters

Girls Meet Record: Ashton Purvis St. Elizabeth 11.40 2007 (6:30pm)
Boys Meet Record: Jahvid Best Salesian 10.36 2007 (6:35pm)

Despite this being a mostly Northern California meet, the Sacramento Meet of Champions this year will host some of the best track athletes in California. Among those athletes is Amador Valley senior Chinyere Okoro (Ray Chavez photo above) who currently holds the CA No. 3 time in the 100m at 11.69. She will be challenged by a fellow North Coast Section athlete in St. Mary's, Berkeley's Sophia Alexander (11.97). Christian Brothers' freshman Columba Effiong has run a best of 12.03 at the Stanford Invitational and will be looking to dip under the 12 second barrier here.

The fastest time in this field belongs to Dixon's David Phillips Jr with his 10.46. He was a section champion and state meet finalist last year and should be challenged by a couple of young sprinters here. Central sophomore Xavier Worthy has run 10.75 twice this season and seems primed for a fast time here. American Canyon's Croix Stewart is the third fastest freshman in California at 10.84 and is a state meet contender in the North Coast Section.
