California Performer of the Week (Oct. 7-Oct. 13)

Get ready to cast your vote for the California Performer of the Week!

It's now October, and we have kicked the month off in fashion with a very prestigious race, the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational! Oh my did we get a spectacle out of this weekend; we've got some new names up on this poll after an exciting weekend of racing.

Boys CA Performer of the Week

Griffin Kushen - Tesoro HS (SS) - The top finisher for California at the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational. Hats off to the senior from the Southern Section for a gutsy race against some of the West Coast's best as Kushen places runner-up in the Rob Brenner Boys Championship race at the invitational. He clocked a fast 14:43.80 during his performance.

Maximo Zavaleta - M.L King HS (SS) - The first junior to cross the finish over in Clovis, Zavaleta finally cracked the 15-minute barrier for the 5K distance. He clocked a 14:59.70 to take almost ten seconds off his 5K P.R and emerge with a Top 10 finish in the championship race at the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational.

Josiah Bowman - Sage Creek HS (SDS) - Bowman was the first Californian to cross the line over at the Rose City Championship Invitational in Portland, OR. The junior from the San Diego Section ran a well-deserved 14:49.60 and set a new section lead for this season.

Girls CA Performer of the Week

Summer Wilson - Irvine HS (SS) - After opening up her 2024 cross country season with a 16:19.4 on a 3-mile course, Wilson rips a 17:08.80 at the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational. She finished third in the stacked Bill Buettner Girls Championship race and third in the merge for the invitational. She now leads the California's class of 2026 in the 5K distance.

Sadie Engelhardt - Ventura HS (SS) - The well-recognized senior went wire-to-wire for the win in the Bill Buettner Girls Championship race. Ran a shocking 16:24.2 for a new meet and course record. Set a new national lead with her performance at the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational.

Molly Sundgren - Buchanan HS (CS) - Ran a 17:44.10 which resulted in being the fastest underclassman at the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational. Just a sophomore, finished 11th in the Bill Buettner Girls Championship race, and led the girls of Buchanan HS to the team title at the invitational. Now leads the class of 2027 in California after her fast 5K this weekend.
