MILESPLITCA TASTY RACE OF THE WEEK
Long Beach Jordan (SS) sophomore Jordan Washington ran equal to the second-fastest time ever at the CA Winter Champs in this super-fast 60-meter dash. Washington's 6.87 (-0.5) is the No. 2 ranked 60-meter time by a sophomore in the U.S. this winter.
Most of the fastest 60m dash times this winter were run indoors. Washington was running outdoors on the super-fast track at Arcadia High.
That's the same track that produced two of the fastest 100-meter sprints in CA history late last spring when Domani Jackson of Mater Dei (SS) went 10.25 (1.7) to equal the wind-legal CA record while setting a junior class state record, and Rodrick Pleasant of JSerra (SS) went 10.32 (1.7) to set a sophomore class record while equalling the No. 12 WL time in state history.
In this featured race at the Winter Championships held Jan. 29, Washington's time fell short of Zach Shinnick's 6.76 standard set in 2016 but, as announced to the stadium by Matt Farmer, it equaled the No. 2 time at this winter outdoor mainstay.
Earlier in the meet, Washington ran 6.91, the fastest time in the prelims among 80 competitors across 12 heats. That 6.91 was equal to the time for finals runner-up Jaelon Barbarin, a junior from Simi Valley (SS).
Five boys ran sub-7 seconds in the championship race:
1 | Jordan Washington | 10 | Jordan (SS) | 6.87 | 3
2 | Jaelon Barbarin | 11 | Simi Valley (SS) | 6.91 | 3
3 | Logan Davis | 12 | Marshall Fundamental (SS) | 6.92 | 3
4 | Max Thomas | 12 | Servite (SS) | 6.95 | 3
