Poll: Greatest CIF-State Girls Cross Country Champion

MEET THE GREATEST 32 CIF-STATE GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS


TIER 1

Sarah Baxter (Simi Valley/SS) -- 4X champion between 2010-13, winning twice each in Division I and Division II. Ran 16:57 or better three times and still won as a sophomore in 2011 running 17:08. Holds divisional time record in D-I (16:40) and D-II (16:43). One of only six girls to ever run sub-17 to win a state title and the only one to do it three times. Her 16:57 is a freshman record by 14 seconds.

Jordan Hasay (Mission Prep/CS) -- 4X Division V champion between 2005-08 with four of the top five times ever in the division, chronologically: 17:11, 17:15, 17:05 and 17:18. The 17:11 ranks No. 2 all-time for freshman girls and at the time was the fifth fastest time ever posted by a divisional champion. Her averaged margin of victory was 1:29 and no less than 1:19. She was fastest in the merge three years and missed by one second the other year.

Claudia Lane (Malibu/SS) -- 2X Division IV champion in 2016-17. Her 16:30 to win as a sophomore in 2016 is the fastest ever run at the CIF-State Championship, regardless of division, and her 16:45 to win as a junior is No. 2 on the D-IV list and equal to the fifth-fastest ever. One of only six girls to ever run sub-17 to win a state title and one of only four to do it more than once.

Julia Stamps (Santa Rosa/NC) -- 3X Division I champion between 1994-96. Owns the Nos. 2 and 3 fastest times ever run in D-I, 16:43 and 16:45. She is one of only six girls to ever run sub-17 to win a state title and one of only four to do it more than once.


TIER 2

Christina Babcock (Woodbridge/SS) -- 2X Division II champion in 2006-07. Her winning time of 17:04 in 2007 ranks No. 3 in the all-time division rankings and her 2006 winning time of 17:20 ranks No. 10 on the D-II list. She was fastest in the merge in 2007, one second better than Jordan Hasay.

Sara Bei (Santa Rosa Montgomery/NC) -- 4X champion between 1997-00, winning twice each in Division III and Division II. Her winning time in 2000 of 17:13 ranks fifth all-time for D-II and her winning time in 1998 of 17:22 ranks ninth for D-III.

Deena Drossin (Agoura/SS) -- 3X Division I champion in 1987, 1989-90. She was the first CIF-State DI champion and the first three-time girls champion, winning in 17:35, 17:27 and 17:29. Her 17:35 to win as a freshman in 1987 still ranks as the No. 5 all-time in the class rankings. 

Fiona O'Keeffe (Davis/SJ) -- 2X Division I champion in 2013-14 with winning times of 16:59 and 16:57. Her times ranks sixth and eighth, respectively, on the all-time D-I list. She is one of only six girls to ever run sub-17 to win a state title and one of only four to do it more than once.


TIER 3

Riley Chamberlain (Del Oro/SJ) -- 2X Division III champion in 2018-19. Current high school junior. Her winning time of 17:19 as a freshman ranks sixth on the D-III list and the winning time from last November of 17:16 ranks No. 3.She is one of only eight girls with at least two titles, both sub-17:20.

Milena Glusac (Fallbrook/SD) -- 2X Division I champion in 1991-92 with winning times of 17:13 and 17:14. She is one of only eight girls with at least two titles in times under 17:20.

Anita Siraki (Glendale Hoover/SS) -- 2X Division I champion in 1999-00. Her fastest winning time of 16:59 ranks seventh on the all-time divisional list and is tied for the 10th fastest overall.

Carrie Verdon (Campolindo/NC) -- 2X Division III champion in 2010-11 with winning times of 17:15 and 17:19, respectively.She is one of only eight girls with at least two titles, both sub-17:20.


TIER 4

Rylee Bowen (Sonoma Academy/NC) -- 3X Division V champion with titles in 2014-15 and 2017. One of only eight girls ever to have won at least three division titles.

Carlie Dorostkar (Canyon Crest Academy/SD) -- She won the Division I title in 2019 in 16:45.40 to become just the sixth girl to win a State Meet title while running sub-17. This a year after placing fifth in 17:43.

Clara Horowitz (Head Royce/NC) -- 3X Division V champion between 1999-01. She has two of the top 11 times in D-V history including 17:43, which ranks eighth.

Julia Maxwell (Branson/NC) -- 3X Division V champion between 2011-2013 with two of the top 10 times in division history, 17:26, which ranks sixth and 17:52, which ranks 10th.


TIER 5

Kira Jorgensen (Rancho Buena Vista/SD) -- 2X champion, winning the first Division II crown in 1987 and the second D-I title in 1988, running 17:34 and 17:42 respectively.

Anna Maxwell (San Lorenzo Valley/CC) -- She won the Division IV title in 2013 with a time of 17:08, which ranks fifth in division history. She is one of just 15 girls to have won a title while running sub-17:10.

Harper McClain (St. Helena/NC) -- Her 17:13.40 to win the Division V title in 2019 ranks as the third fastest ever in the division and splits up Jordan Hasay's four-slot stranglehold atop the D-V record list. Her time ranked fourth in the merge, .30 behind Alexandra Klos. Current high school senior.

Amber Trotter (Ukiah/NC) -- She won the Division I title in 2001 with a time of 17:01 that ranks 10th on the all-time D-I list. Her time ranks as the 13th fastest by a state champion in meet history. She is one of just 11 girls in State Meet history to win while running 17:05 or faster. 


TIER 6

Haley Herberg (Capistrano Valley/SS) -- She won the Division II title in 2017 in 17:00, the second fastest time in D-II history behind Sarah Baxter's 16:43, and the 12th fastest by a champion in meet history. She is one of just 11 girls in State Meet history to win while running 17:05 or faster.

Bethan Knights (Northwood/SS) -- She won the Division III title in 2013 with a time of 17:08, the fastest ever by a D-III champion a year after placing second in 17:49. 

Cate Ratliff (Santa Cruz/CC) -- She won the the Division IV title in 2015, covering the Woodward Park course in 17:04, which still ranks as the third fastest D-IV time in history.

Corie Smith (Buchanan/CS) -- She won the Division I title as a sophomore in 2017 with a time of 17:17. In 2019, she placed second to Carlie Dorostkar in 17:00, the fastest time ever by a runner-up in State Meet history.


TIER 7

Caitlin Chock (Granite Bay/SJ) -- 2X Division II champion in 2002-03 with times of 17:30 and 17:21, respectively. The latter time ranks 12th in division history. Her times were first in the merge both years.

Destiny Collins (Great Oak/SS) -- She won the Division I title in 2015 in 17:10 and is one of just 15 girls in State Meet history to win while running 17:10 or faster. She had placed third the previous two years with a best of 17:09 in 2013.

Molly Grabill (Rancho Bernardo/SD) -- She won the Division I title in 2009 in 17:06, the fastest time in the merge. This a year after placing sixth in 17:52. She is one of just 12 girls in State Meet history to win while running 17:06 or faster.

Alexandra Klos (Vista Del Lago/SJ) -- As a sophomore last fall, she won the Division II title in 17:13, the sixth fastest time in D-II history. Her time ranked third in the merge behind Carlie Dorostkar and Corie Smith, who went 1-2 in D-I.


TIER 8

Rachel Bryan (Laguna Creek/SJ) -- 2X Division I champion in 2002-03 with winning times of 17:41 and 17:29, respectively. Her times ranked Nos. 2 and 3 in the merge.

Laurynne Chetelat (Davis/SJ) -- She won the Division I title in 2007 in 17:18 a year after placing 10th in 18:14. She won the first of four individual titles by girls from Davis Senior High.

Kristen Gordon (Carondelet/NC) -- She won the Division III title in 1996 in 17:17, which still ranks as the fourth fastest time in division history. 

Gillian Meeks (Granada/NC) -- She won the Division II title in 2015 running 17:16, which ranks as No. 7 on the all-time division list.
