Boys Preview & Virtual Meet
The defending team and individual champions are back and appear to be at full strength, but only one still holds the title of favorite coming into the meet. Austin Tamagno (Brea Olinda) won by 15 seconds in 2014, but he hasn't been tested yet this fall so we won't know if he is ahead of that pace until Saturday's race ends. The Dana Hills duo of Mason Coppi and Jake Odgen are back to try to power the Dolphins to a championship, and they have been joined by Jack Landgraf so far this season. Keep an eye on Dylan Scarsone (Canyon), who had a huge time at Woodbridge and would very much like to back it up with a strong race against touch competition here. Also, you definitely shouldn't count out Andrew Burkhardt (JSerra) or Connor Dunne (San Clemente), as both are capable of cracking the top 5 with a good race.
With the fearsome front 3 mentioned above leading the way, plus a deep pack right on their heels, Dana Hills has the potential to dominate this race. The only team that might be able to stand in the Dolphins' way would be 2-time defending champion Brea Olinda, which qualified for NXN last fall. The question is, have we seen the best from the Wildcats so far this year? The answer is almost certainly no, and so we have some mystery that will be cleared up once the dust settles Saturday. In fact, with the addition of former Lutheran runer Kevin McNulty, who hasn't raced yet this year, this could go either way. If Brea Olinda isn't able to stay with the favorites, they might find themselves battling El Toro and Trabuco Hills for second place.
