Two-time CA CIF-State 800m champion Alyssa Brewer (California HS) fought off a chilly headwind and the hot pursuit of a relentless Mari Friedman (Santa Cruz) to post the fastest two-lap time in the U.S. in winning the "Sombrero Heat" at the Dublin Distance Fiesta on Saturday at Dublin HS. Brewer's time of 2:08.99 shattered her meet record of 2:12.13 set last year and took over the national lead. A former CIF-State champion in cross country, Davis Senior's Olivia O'Keeffe had never run the 3200m in track competition before Saturday's Dublin Distance Fiesta.
