The first full weekend of the 2025 CIF track and field season produced some amazing performances in and out of state. Starting this week, we'll conduct a poll highlighting some of California's best performances.
The California Performer of the Week poll will close at 5 p.m. PST on Thursday, February 27, and the winner will be announced shortly after.
Take a look at some of the top-performing boys from last weekend.
CANDIDATES
Devin Bragg (Los Alamitos)- The senior put himself in the national conversation after running 10.57 to win the NIKE LB Poly Trackrabbit Invitational 100m. He currently sits at California's number one to start the season.
Liam Miller (South Torrance)- At the STCU West Coast Indoor Championships, Miller won the indoor 3000m in a U.S. number eight, 8:23.47. The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo commit doubled back the next day to secure a victory in the mile in a time of 4:14.05.
Cameron Jones (Bishop O'Dowd (NC)- Jones came out the season swinging with a 47-4 personal record in the triple jump at the Skyline Invitational.
Taye Newman (JSerra)- At the JSerra All-Comers, Newman opened up in the 1600m with a seven second personal record to run 4:13.38. After a great showing during the preseason, Newman has emerged as a serious contender in any mid-distance race.
Quran Clayton Jr (Oak Hills)- Clayton ran 14.41 in the 110m hurdles to win the Oak Hills Classic Invite. He currently holds the fastest 110m hurdle time in California and the tenth fastest time in the nation.
Brandon Gorski (Mater Dei)- Groski jumped 23-8 at the Mater Dei Invitational, further showing him as a top state talent in the Long Jump. In 2024, he placed 8th at the 2024 CIF State Championships.
