We just wrapped up a majority of our CIF-Sectional Championships. Take a look at some of the key performances from this weekend!
Boys CA Performer of the Week
Eli Fitchen-Young - Santa Cruz HS (CCS) - The senior ripped a fast 14:23.50 over at the CIF-Central Coast Section Finals. He clocked the fastest time of the day at the meet on the course measuring just under 3 miles. Even with a conversion, Fitchen-Young would have clocked under 15:00 minutes over the 3-mile distance. He'll be making his 4th trip to the CIF-State Championships.
JR Lesher - Hueneme HS (SS) - He clocked 15:17.30 on the Mt. SAC course to be the fastest individual at the CIF-Southern Section Prelims. The newly implemented 3-mile course will be used again this weekend for the section finals. Lesher will look to make another trip to the California state meet after arriving from Missouri in 2023.
Cooper Castleberry - Poway HS (SDS) - The junior from the San Diego Section ran the fastest time of his section on Saturday. Castleberry clocked a 15:13.80 on the 3-mile course at the same venue used for the FootLocker XC Nationals. He also led his team to a berth at the CIF-State Championships in two weeks. This will be his first state meet appearance.
Girls CA Performer of the Week
Rylee Blade - Santiago-Corona HS (SS) - Blade's impressive season continues as she rolls to a 16:49.50 at the CIF-Southern Section Prelims. She was the only sub 17:00 minute performer at the prelims and led her team to a spot on the line at the section finals this Saturday.
Chiara Dailey - La Jolla HS (SDS) - Her 17:19.40 was the fastest of the day at the CIF-San Diego Section Finals. Dailey will be making her third trip to Fresno for the state meet in as many years and will also be taking her team with her after winning the Div. IV team title.
Summer Wilson - Irvine HS (SS) - The junior clocked a 17:05.10 to put the field away in the Div. III race at the CIF-Southern Section Prelims. She'll be lining up on Saturday as an individual looking to return to the CIF-State Championships, this time under the Irvine HS uniform.
