A week ago, we began our Future Stars article highlighting a freshman who already is well established as a current star in Ventura's Sadie Engelhardt

This week, our cover athlete is Engelhardt's former Valley United track club teammate, Tiffany Sax. The Newbury Park (SS) freshman dropped a U.S. No. 1 time in the 3200 meters over the weekend, warranting spotlight play here. (More on Tiffany below.)

Many states have yet to start their outdoor season. Big marks in February tend to trickle down the CA and U.S. rankings lists once the rest of the country is engaged in outdoors. But that in no way undermines the CA and U.S. rankings established over the past week by the young athletes featured in this article.

Without question, to have two freshmen girls leading the country in the 1600 and 3200 events -- not just in the class but U.S. No. 1s overall -- is stunningly impressive.

This is a weekly series designed to highlight some of the top up-and-coming young stars in the Golden State. This week our focus is a sampling of frosh-soph boys and girls who stood out during the second week of the track and field season.
