There were 20 CA athletes in the freshman and sophomore classes who, with performances last week, took over or improved upon the top mark in California in their respective classes.
Athletes listed below are all state leaders in their class and many are nationally ranked in the class, where noted.

FRESHMAN BOYS
Devin Bragg (Los Alamitos/SS) - 100m U.S. all-conditions freshman class leader after running 10.36 (3.5) to win the Division 1 title at the CIF-Southern Section Finals. (Raymond Tran photo above)
Antonio Walton (Cathedral/SS) - 200m CA freshman class leader (U.S. No. 4 all conditions, No. 2 wind-legal) after running 21.54 (1.3) for fifth in the Division 3 race at the CIF-Southern Section Finals.
Seth Shigg Jr. (Lawndale/SS) - 400m CA freshman class leader (U.S. No. 11) after running 49.45 for fifth in Division 2 at the CIF-Southern Section Finals.
Brandon Gorski (Mater Dei/SS) - Long jump CA freshman class leader (U.S. No. 8) after jumping 22-10.50 (-1.0) for second place in Division 3 at the CIF-Southern Section Finals.
McKay Madsen (Clovis North/CS) - Discus throw CA freshman class leader (U.S. No. 3) after throwing 168-1 for second place in Division 1 at the CIF-Central Section Finals.

Jordan Washington (Long Beach Jordan/SS) - 100m and 200m CA sophomore class leader after running 10.37 (3.3) for 100m (U.S. No. 2) and 20.93 (2.7) for 200m (U.S. No. 3) to win both Division 2 titles at the CIF-Southern Section Finals.

Cameron Williams (Merrill F. West/SJ) - 110m hurdles CA sophomore class leader (U.S. No. 17) after running 14.87 (-0.8) at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 Finals.
Brandon Cheeks (Mission Bay/SD) - Long jump/triple jump CA sophomore class leader in both after marks of 23-0.50 (1.2) in the long jump (U.S. No. 2 wind-legal) and 46-3 (0.7) in the triple jump (U.S. No. 4 wind-legal) at the CIF-San Diego Section Division 3 prelims.
Max McFarlane (Turlock/SJ) - Pole vault CA sophomore class leader (tied for U.S. No. 4) after clearing 15-6 at the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Finals.
Derek Smith (Buchanan/CS) - Discus CA sophomore class leader (U.S. No. 7) after a best of 171-11 to win the Division 1 title at the CIF-Central Section Finals.

Jillene Wetteland (Long Beach Poly/SS) - High jump CA freshman class leader (tied for U.S. No. 5) after a clearance of 5-8 to win the Division 1 title at the CIF-Southern Section Division Finals.
Kaylee Best (Norco/SS) - Triple jump CA freshman class leader (U.S. No. 9 wind-legal) after a jump of 36-7.25 (0.3) for fifth place in Division 2 at the CIF-Southern Section Finals.
Sofia Rakfeldt (Harvard Westlake/SS) - Pole vault CA freshman class leader (tied for U.S. No. 12) after an 11-6 clearance for third place in Division 3 at the CIF-Southern Section Finals.
