PREVIEW CIF-Central Coast Section Semi-Finals

The Central Coast Section was the last section in California to be approved for competition and the qualifying semifinal will take place this Saturday at Soquel HS in Santa Cruz. The meet will determine who will qualify for the final which will take place the following Saturday on June 19th.

The time schedule for both competitions will be as follows.

Spectators will not be allowed to attend the semifinal and all of the competing schools will need to set up their tents in a designated area that you can see here.

INDIVIDUALS AND TEAMS WILL QUALIFY BY ACHIEVING THE FOLLOWING:

100m-400m/100m Hurdles/110m Hurdles/300m Hurdles/400m Relay/1600m Relay-Heat winners as well as next 4 fastest times for a total of 8.

800m--Top 3 in each heat as well as next 3 fastest times for a total of 12.

1600m/3200m-Top 4 in each heat as well as next 4 fastest times for a total of 12.

Shot Put/Discus/Long Jump/Triple Jump-Each competitor will get four attempts with the top 12 marks qualifying to the final.

High Jump/Pole Vault-The final 12 competitors will advance to the final. In case of a tie, both competitors will advance to the final.

NOTABLE COMPETITORS TO WATCH

Luci Lambert (Sacred Heart Prep) - She will be a contender to win both the 1600m and 800m.

Yutaka Roberts (El Camino) - Favorite to win 800m after posting 1:53.42 win at Clash of the Titans.

Nolan Topper (Bellarmine) - One of the favorites to win 1600m and 3200m.

Charlie Dang (Silver Creek) - Defending champion in the discus.

Maia Garcia (Pinewood) - The top high jumper here as well as a player on one of the top basketball teams in the section.

Ian Koe (Aragon) - One of the fastest sprinters competing in the 400 and 200.

Isabelle Cairns (St. Francis) - Favorite to win 400m and one of the favorites to win the 800m.

Megan MacKenzie (Los Altos) - Among the favorites to win the two horizontal jumps, long and triple.

We will have a more comprehensive preview next week before the CCS Final as we take a look at all the podium (Top 6) contenders for each event.
