BOYS SOUTHERN SECTION - TOP 25
1) Great Oak (Div. 1) -- A patient first mile by the Wolfpack closed over the latter half with the poise of a seasoned champion in successfully chasing down Newbury Park to capture the Clovis Invite. The Chris Verdugo and Cole Sawires Yager-led group has beat two national powerhouses in back-to-back weeks. The characters are interchangeable with this pack while boasting 11 boys breaking 16:20 on the Woodward Park course!
2) Newbury Park (Div. 2) -- Despite being caught by Great Oak over the last 800 meters at the Clovis Invite, the Panthers set an all-time course record at the Clovis Invite (76:09=15:14 average!), eclipsing the mark held by Arcadia's 2010 NXN championship squad. Nico Young ran the second fastest time ever (14:29) on the course while all seven broke the 15:45 barrier.
3) Dana Hills (Div. 2) -- Carrick Denker broke 15:25 at Clovis while leading the Dolphins to a solid team effort. As No. 2 Jai Dawson did not compete at Clovis, we have them ranked higher than Claremont, Agoura and REV, despite solid showings from those three.
4) Claremont (Div. 2) -- Captured the Crystal Springs Invite against one of the best in California, Bellarmine Prep. Adam Trafecanty has led, up front all season long, while they still look to have a varsity member or two return.
5) Redlands East Valley (Div. 2) -- Perhaps, lost in the log jam in Division 2, REV has put together back-to-back high level performances while capturing the Inland Empire Challenge last weekend. Matthew Casillas carries the torch up front. (No. 2 Simon Opsahl was sick last week and didn't factor in the scoring at IEC)
6) Agoura (Div. 3) -- THE surprise of the weekend as they competed with some of California's best, regardless of division. Their 79:39 is faster than last year's Division 3 State champions (Ridgeview) and four minutes ahead of what they ran in that same race last November. Ryan Koepnick led the way with his 15:30 clocking. 
7) Thousand Oaks (Div. 2) -- Took last weekend off, but revealed their their talent in rolling to the team victory at the Palos Verdes Invite. Michael Mireles (Patrick Corsinita photo) continues to prove why he's one of the best in California.
8) Roosevelt (Div. 1) -- Tough weekend for the Mustangs, and they were not as sharp at the Inland Empire Challenge as we've seen in previous efforts this season. They look to rebound against ML King this week while Raul Chavez is quietly one of the best in the Southern Section.
9) Burbank (Div. 1) -- Opted to skip Clovis but one fewer race may pay off when November rolls around. Victor Goli leads the squad as we looking at results from Portland and Woodbridge to substantiate their high ranking.
10) Long Beach Poly (Div. 1) -- Took the weekend off but past efforts prove why they are a State Meet squad, led by Ronan McMahon-Staggs. Shined in their team victory at the Capital Cross Challenge in Sacramento two weekends ago.
11) Mira Costa (Div. 1) -- With Division 1 wide open beyond Great Oak, Cormac Carew stepped it up last week to lead the Mustangs in Washington. Crew did not click on all cylinders while they're trying to get Billy Atkinson back to the form that we saw in his 14:39 victory at Cool Breeze. At full strength, they can easily place second at next month's divisional finals.
11t) Vista Murrieta (Div. 1) -- Came out of their shell to burst up our rankings at the Hole in the Wale Invite in Washington. With an eye-popping sub-17 second scoring spread, they beat Mira Costa and now help make the Division 1 boys' rankings much more intriguing! Noah Murasmith led for the Broncos.
13) Crescenta Valley (Div. 1) -- Dylan Wilbur led the Falcons to a nice effort at Clovis with a 41-second scoring gap. They Falcons were missing Jack Myers, who has been their No. 3 most of the season.
14) West Torrance (Div. 2) -- UCLA-bound Jake Parker (15:25) looks to be back. Fared well at Clovis but Josh Murray was about 45-seconds off, based on his previous month's body of work.
15) Loyola (Div. 2) -- Took last weekend off; Anthony Stone continues to lead this group while the sophomore class has fill in the gaps left from last year's graduates. The Cubs are right in the thick of advancing another squad to the State Meet.
16) La Serna (Div. 1) -- With the squad completely in tact for the first time in 2019, they outlasted a tough California crew at the Del Rio league meet two weeks ago. They backed it up with a nice effort at Clovis this past weekend.
17) California (Div. 1) -- They were unable to match a revamped La Serna group two weeks ago, but rebounded fine with a good performance at Clovis. 80:27 team time has them right in the hunt for another top seven finish at next month's finals.
18) El Toro (Div. 2) -- Solid performance at Clovis when you consider that they were missing three varsity members, including front-running Juan Torres-Mondragon and Mitch Groff. Ready to roll this weekend at the Orange County Championships.
19) Royal (Div. 3) -- They continue to build something special as the all-underclass crew ran to an 81:16 team time at Clovis. Their usual No. 1, Angus Fitzgerald off about 40-45 seconds from this previous efforts this season while Matthew Russell stepped it up with his 15:47 breakout effort.
20) ML King (Div. 1) -- Have not heard from this group in weeks but they will hook up against Roosevelt in the Big 8 second league meet this week. This group is still, somewhat a mystery but talent is all there to make the push for a State Meet spot.
21) Foothill Tech (Div. 4) -- The Dragons break into the Top-25 with their performance (81:28 team time) at the Clovis Invite. Juniors Oliver Pick and Josh Villasenor are two of the best in their division while we foresee continued improvement from this group over the next month and our favorites to capture the divisional crown. (only one senior in the top seven).
22) Arcadia (Div. 1) -- Solid development as squad brought home a 81:22 effort at Clovis. But, for this squad to flirt with the making the State Meet in Division 1, they must shore up the gap between their top two and the remaining scorers.
23) Beckman (Div. 1) -- Had no problem capturing the Pacific Coast League preview last week. Solid quartet up front but to jump up on this list, the Patriots need to shore up that large gap to their fifth scorer.
24) Capistrano Valley (Div. 2) -- Sean Robertson added another great effort to his resume while the rest of the squad crossed with an 81:29 team time.
25) Rancho Cucamonga (Div. 1) -- Off our radar until their performance at the Inland Empire Challenge. 80:27 team time in dry conditions and with less than 30-second scoring gap.
