The CIF-Southern Section Divisional Championship Finals is as close to high school track nirvana as exists.
With competition across four divisions for boys and girls, every race and every field event produces a champion. That's 112 individual titles, 16 relay titles and eight team championships. Not bad production for an eight-hour meet.
Saturday's CIF-SS Divisional Championships at El Camino College in Torrance, is scheduled for the first field event at 10:30 a.m. with running starting at 1 p.m. The last event on the track is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The meet also serves as a qualifier for the CIF-SS Masters Meet (May 18 at El Camino College). That meet serves as a qualifier for the CIF-State Championships (May 24-25 at Buchanan HS in Clovis).
Qualifying into Masters is restricted to the following:
Top nine (9) in the 100, 200, 400, both hurdles and both relays, regardless of division, advance as do the top twelve (12) in the 800, 1600, 3200 and all field events.
On the following pages, we take a preview look at Saturday's Division 3 and Division 4 Finals.
