Top Girls Shot Put Marks Over The Past Decade

The CA trio of senior Natalie Ramirez (West Ranch/SS), senior Jocelynn Budwig (Fowler/CS) and sophomore Faith Bender (Bakersfield Liberty/CS) currently rank 1-2-3 in the U.S. in the shot put. However, over the past decade in CA, this trio ranks just tied for No. 16, No. 18 and No. 25, respectively. 

That's not as much a slight to this current trio as it is an indication of strength and depth of the past decade. In CA history, only 19 girls have exceeded 50 feet. Four those have been this decade, including Nos. 1 (Elena Bruckner, 54-7) and 3 (Stamatia Scarvelis, 53-9.25) in state history. 

Everyone in the top nine of this list has hit 48-03.50 or farther. There are 22 girls at 47 feet or more, and 33 at 46-02.50 or better. 

Among our nationally-ranked trio is Bender, a sophomore, who, at 46-08, ranks 25th. The next ranked current thrower who is not a senior is Merrill West junior Melisa Toilolo who ranks 71st (43-05).
