State Meet Preview: Division IV

Division IV Girls Preview

Runner to beat: Skyler Wallace, Sage Creek

Team to beat: Foothill Technology

Individual competition

The two-time State and Foot Locker National champion, Claudia Lane of Malibu did not participate at the SS meet which means that we will have a new champion in this division. The favorites will come from the San Diego Section as Skyler Wallace of Sage Creek has been the most impressive runner to date in this division. She easily won her section final easily outdistancing younger sister, Stormy. Freshman Daniela Quintero of Harvard Westlake won the SS final ahead of Mayfield sophomore, Audrey Suarez. Foothill Tech's Lauren Kearney leads their team and will be among the top individuals. Natalia Quintero gives Harvard Westlake another strong one/two punch. Costa Mesa junior Diane Molina was also within striking distance at the SS meet and will be here as well. The top two runners from the Central Coast Section will be The King's Academy junior Anna Mokkapati and Santa Cruz junior Lila Roake.

Team competition

The team to beat will be Foothill Technology (photo above). They are the two-time state champions and are peaking at the right time. Last week, they rolled to another section title easily outrunning many state-ranked teams. They were missing one of their top five runners and with her anticipated return at State, Foothill Tech should be at the top of the podium once again. Their main competition should come from the already mentioned Sage Creek girls. Harvard Westlake, Laguna Beach and El Segundo will all be in the mix along with Sage Creek for the last two spots on the podium. CCS champion Menlo and SJS champion El Dorado will be aiming for top 10 finishes.
