Distance events, an area where the Southern Section has dominated for an abundance of seasons are now being challenged by individuals from other sections.
Jaelyn Williams leads the charts for a combined effort of 1600m and 3200m. The standout runner from Eastlake HS has been on a roll since she started high school and will look to fight for a state title in May. Two more San Diego Section athletes follow in the Top 10, Gioana Lopizzo (La Costa Canyon HS), and Chiara Dailey (La Jolla HS) who are seeded #3 and #5 respectively.
The Southern Section has six of the Top 10 spots claimed, with all of their 3200m legs running under the 10:30 minute mark.
Stay tuned for the post-season as these girls begin to focus a bit more on their individual events rather than a combination of both.
