Boys Sprints / Relays / Hurdles

Oaks Christian junior Cristian Moore (pictured at left with Asani Hampton) headlines our field in the Boys' Sprints.  Moore is coming off a 2017 season that saw him take 2nd at the California state meet in the 200 after finishing 5th place in the 100 meters.  Opening up his 2018 season, Moore was of the nation's best sophomores in 2017 and amongst the favorites for the state title this year.  Adding to the sprint stage here, Oxnard senior Chase Wells has the most postseason experience.  As a two-time Southern Section Masters qualifier for the 400, Wells is coming off a 48.31 (#4 in CA) last weekend.  Wells will take a rare look into the 100 meters here as well. Long Beach Poly junior Kejuan Markham impressed last weekend with his 10.98 while fellow junior, Kenyon Reed raced to a wind aided 22.02 time.  One of the most improved sprinters in all of California is Trabuco Hills junior Jake Burns.  Burns has rocketed onto the scene, ranking amongst the top 10 in the state in both the 100 (10.67) and 200 (21.55).  Moore, Wells and Burns will push one another down into the low to mid-21's in the 200 meters if conditions allow.  Mission Hills' senior Chris Olave (10.82w) just missed qualifying for the 2017 state meet and returns as one of the best from the San Diego section.  Hamilton junior Isaac Randall (48.94) was the LA City Section runner-up and a state meet qualifier in 2017 for the 400 meters.

In the relays, Long Beach Poly is coming off a 41.76 effort last weekend, elevating the Jackrabbits to #3 in California for the 4x100 Relay.   Defending their home turf, Trabuco Hills has rolled to a 42.99 this season which places them amongst the top 15 squad in the Southern Section.  Poly will come back looking to improve upon their California #5 ranking in the 4x200.  They have run 1:29.07 while the current state leader is 1:26.39.  Ending the meet, Poly will hope to score the hat trick as they have run to a 3:24 this season in the 4x400 Relay.  Trabuco Hills and Carson will look to push one another under 3:25 as well.

Moving over to the hurdles, one of California's best will shine as Upland's Caleb Lutalo Roberson was the nation's top sophomore a year ago in the 300 Hurdles.  He is coming in with 10.82w and 21.41w bests on his impressive resume along with a 14.56 in the 110 High Hurdles.  Meanwhile, Roberson's 37.16 in the 300 Hurdles has him as the 2nd fastest returner in the state.  In the 110 High Hurdles, Carson's Andre Butt (14.65) is Roberson's greatest challenge.  Butt finished 5th at the LA City Section Finals in 2017 but has been one of the most improved in this event in the state.  El Toro's Chris Kruki (39.37) is the defending Sea View League champion while Hamilton senior Ryan Fields (39.68) was the LA City Section runner-up on his way to being a state meet qualifier in 2017.
