On Course with ... Lex Young of Newbury Park Oct 01, 2022

Early in August, we caught up with Newbury Park (SS) senior Lex Young, the top-ranked high school boys cross country runner in the U.S., according to the MileSplit50 national rankings. Lex, is one of three returning seniors from the 2021 XC national championship team. In this interview -- an edited version from our original post -- we talk to Lex about his summer training, he and twin brother Leo's commitment to Stanford, his passion for creating content on the brothers' YouTube channel, and his goals for '22. In the interview, Lex says he wants to win a race. Welp, he's already done that, winning the Marmonte League race in early September. It's the only meet he and his brother have competed in so far this season with the long-awaited Clovis Invitational on the CIF-State Meet course in Fresno, coming up on Oct. 8. These meet has been on the brothers' radar for months. Young placed fifth at this mid-season showcase last October, running 14:34.60 over the 5K course at Woodward Park. He followed that with one of the fastest times in course history, 14:31, as part of Newbury Park's record-setting victory in the Division I race at the CIF-State Championships.
