Last season she sat on top of the National leader board in the 300 hurdles and was ranked US#3 in the 100 hurdles and US#5 in the 400. Kori is a joy to be around and her love of the sport is evident every time she steps on the track. Before each race you can usually see her shaking hands and wishing her competitors luck and hugging them after but once the gun goes off.........she means business! Journal Entry #2 (April 15, 2010)
So last night can only be described as epic. I won both hurdles at Arcadia; set the meet record in the 100h; was Female Athlete of the Meet; oh and I got asked to Prom. The perfect way to end my last time at my favorite high school meet.

I started off the day with what my dad calls "The Breakfast of Champions". I invited my teammates from CHS (Claremont HS) who were running, along with my teammates from the USA World Youth Team, over to my house for brunch. We ate, talked, laughed and watched Dwayne Golbeck and Gunner Nixson shoot some hoops. It was really nice to relax before the big meet with my teammates.
Going into the meet I felt pretty confident. I knew I had big competition but I had really good practices leading up to meet and also had a dream 2 days before the meet where I was hurdling better than I ever had before. My coach told me that I had done everything I could to prepare. All I had to do was execute. I didn't want to let doubts affect my performance, so I got into my mind that I accomplish my goal - winning both hurdles.
To be honest one of the reasons I love Arcadia so much is the fact that I get to see so many people I love. I love saying hi to everyone and catching up with athletes I haven't seen all season. My coach also knows of my love for socializing so he made sure I knew to stay focused. I, of course said my hellos, but when it was time to warm up it was just me, my Ipod and the task at hand (I'll admit I did get a little sidetracked before my race when I saw Ms. Katie Nelms but what can say that is my Partner in Crime). I also had so many people in the stands who were cheering and supporting me which meant the world to me.
Running at Arcadia was, as always, magical. There's this crazy energy that just gets me pumped. Though my races, especially the 300h weren't the most technically sound, I pulled off the wins. So for now I'm happy. But I can't wait to get back to work at practice to fix a couple of things. :]
Journal Entry #1 (March 30, 2010)
Hey Everyone! Kori Carter here. Hmm... a little bit about myself. I am a Senior at Claremont High School (almost done!). If you see me at a meet I'm the one walking to the beat blaring out of my headphones, giving hugs and talking to everyone (usually with some sort of snack in hand). Next year I'll be heading up to Nor Cal to run at Stanford University, something I'm really excited about. Though the recruitment process can be a bit crazy, I think Stanford is the perfect fit for me - it just seemed to have everything I was looking for, academically as well as athletically.
Since I can remember, I've always been a tomboy and loved sports. Growing up I was always on a team ... or three. In 7th grade, my passion for softball was pretty much nonexistent so I tried track. I thought I'd be the next Jackie Joyner-Kersee and become a heptathlete. However, I found myself practicing hurdling more and more and my other disciplines less and less. I feel in love with the event and the rest is history. I just feel really blessed to have found something I love and to actually be sort of good at it.

Now that you know a little about me, I'll get into my week, which I must say was full of ups and downs. Coming off a huge and unexpected win at Nike Indoor Nationals (NIN) in the 60h from lane one, Sunday, I was ready to do work at home. I put in a solid workout Monday and was ready for my dual meet against Etiwanda Wednesday. I used the meet as a workout, running the 100mh, 100m, 300mh and 200m since I had California Relays Friday/Saturday. The girls lost by 7pts but the boys on my team handled business and got a "W". After resting on Thursday I thought I was ready to roll at the Cali Relays and put down some good times. But my hamstring had other plans. I've had issues with it since my freshmen year but it had been feeling good since NIN, so when it became an issue again Friday I was extremely frustrated. I've been icing, heating, getting cold laser therapy, getting it massaged, doing strengthening exercises, EVERYTHING! Yet, I was still running into problems. Every time I took a step forward, it seemed like I went 2 back. So I didn't run Saturday and watching the invitational heats of the 100h and 300h made me a little crazy. But its going to take more than a little hamstring issue to get me off track. When I went to my physical therapist today I found out one of my legs is longer than the other (crazy! I know). I'm taking all the steps to overcome this slight set back now and focusing on my favorite high school meet, Arcadia. I'm ready to do big things this year all I have to do is stay healthy and work hard!
