CANDIDATES
Aidan Antonio (Woodbridge)
The top California boy from the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic was awarded to the home team, Aidan Antonio of Woodbridge High School. The junior ran with inspiration from the start as he tied for the lead at the first mile marker. He then managed to finish strongly to earn fifth place overall and the title of fastest Californian at the 44th Annual Woodbridge XC Classic.
Matteo Sanchez (Redondo)
It's been a fantastic season to start for Matteo Sanchez and the Sea Hawks, and that continued in the Woodbridge sweepstakes. As a sophomore, Sanchez led Redondo Union to fifth place overall as a team and second among California teams. His outstanding finish at 14:22 also placed him fifteenth overall and as the second fastest sophomore in sweepstakes.
Olly O'Connor (Viewpoint)
Although Olly O'Connor was the fourth fastest Californian in the sweepstakes race and finished in eighth place overall, the most impressive part of his performance was in the last mile. O'Connor surged 38 places in the final mile to finish eighth, setting a significant personal best of 14:07. The CIF Division 5 runner clearly distinguished himself from the field he'll race this November and is emerging as one of the top runners in the Golden State.
Dylan Mehnert (West Torrance)
A fast and consistent No.1 cross country finish can boost many teams' confidence before a major invitational like Woodbridge. Dylan Mehnert of West Torrance did just that for his team on Saturday in the rated race. Mehnert finished seventh overall with a time of 14:35, leading West Torrance to a team victory in the rated race.
Henry Hauser (Menlo)
All the fast running wasn't regulated to Saturday at Woodbridge because Henry Hauser of Menlo ran 14:22 on Friday to win the last boys' race of the night. To win, Hauser needed to battle a three-headed monster from the prestigious Crater High School in Oregon. His victory also helped Menlo School score a second-place win in the race.
