CA Rankings: The Strongest San Diego Section Yet?

Last weekend, athletes from the San Diego section showed out in a big way to take the California lead in several events.

First, Josiah Bowman of Sage Creek continues to make significant statements in the mid-distances as the season begins. At the Adidas Meet of Champions HS Distance Classic, Bowman made a late charge to win the 800m invitational. He ran even splits of 55, finishing the race in 1:50.39, which also ranks him fourth in the nation.

On the girls' side, the Herbst Twins are leading the way in their respective events. Morgan Herbst was only six hundredths of a second off her 300m hurdles personal record at the Falcon Relays, where she secured a victory in 41.32. Later that day, Makenna Herbst ran 2:04.72 to win the Meet of Champions in the 800m. These performances by the Herbst Twins are not just California leads but also currently rank as the best in the nation.

Other state leaders from the San Diego section include Anisa Bowen-Fontenot in the 100m hurdles and Paige Echsner in the pole vault. Bowen-Fonetet is the first girl to run under 14 seconds in the 100m hurdles this season and is ranked in the top 10 in the U.S. Echsner has also entered the U.S. top 10 with her impressive vault of 13-0.
