CLOVIS -- Sometimes, you just have to take a risk.
That's exactly what J Serra Catholic's Georgia Jeanneret did on Friday in the CIF State Outdoor Championship prelims, opening the first 400 of her 800 meter state prelim in 61 seconds.
The strategy was a bold move, but it also forced the field into uncomfortable waters.
Jeanneret did not win the heat, though she may have gotten into everyone's heads and by Friday's end she was through to the final, too, with her time of 2:08.73.
The UCLA recruit was just a second off her career best time of 2:07.26.
Prospect's Kylie Hoornaert clocked a winning heat time of 2:08.48, while Newport Harbor's Keaton Robar was second in 2:08.49.
Those three times were the fastest across the 800m prelims on Friday.
