Congratulations to Leo Young of Newbury Park (SS) last week's top vote-getter for MileSplit Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Leo, a senior, transitioned from leading the U.S. U20 cross country team to a world top-three finish, to the outdoor oval and a CA No. 3 all-time clocking for 1500 meters of 3:40.86 at The Ten showcase meet at JSerra HS. That is the No. 10 performance and Young is the No. 6 performer all-time in U.S. high school history.
Young received 44 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Anthony Fast Horse, a junior at Ventura (SS), was second in the voting at 13 percent, and Young's teammate, senior Aaron Sahlman, received 10 percent of the vote.
Congratulations to all athletes whose performances warrant consideration in this weekly poll. And thanks to everyone who voted to support these amazing athletes.
