'23 TRACK and FIELD PERFORMER OF THE WEEK POLL
Congratulations to Grant Morgenfeld of Palo Alto (CC) this week's top vote-getter for MileSplit Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Grant, a junior, ran two fast times at the Arcadia Winter Championships Qualifier meet, 4:06.98 for 1500 meters and 8:53.75 for 3K, both ranked second in CA this winter.
Grant received 43 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Anthony Fasthorse, a junior at Ventura (SS), received 15 percent of the vote and Davis-Davis Lyric, a senior at Upland (SS), received 13 percent.
Congratulations to all athletes whose performance warranted consideration in last week's poll and thanks to everyone who voted.

Brandon Cheeks II (Mission Bay/SD) - Brandon, a junior, won the long jump (22-03.50) and triple jump (45-01) at the University City Winter Qualifier. Both are among the top two marks in the state this winter.
Isaac Lewis (Long Beach Wilson/SS) - Isaac, a senior, won the 60m hurdles (8.35) and 300m (34.28) and placed second in the 600m (1:23.61) at the Covina Winter Qualifier. His ranks either first or second in the state in all three events.
Justin Pretre (Menlo/CC) - Justin, a senior, ran the fastest 1500m of the winter, going 4:01.83, and also anchored the winning 4x800m relay team (8:16.66), at the Palma Winter Qualifier meet in Salinas.
Xai Ricks (Long Beach Poly/SS) - Xai, a junior, competing indoors at the Texas Tech Under Armour HS Classic in Lubbock, ran a U.S. No. 1 time for the indoor 400m of 47.77 during Friday's prelims.
Aaron Sahlman (Newbury Park/SS) - Aaron, a senior headed to NAU, opened his track season running indoors at the Lumberjack Team Challenge at Northern Arizona University where he won the 800m in 1:54.56 and was the top high school athlete in the mile, running 4:15.36.
Jaylon Wells (Warren/SS) - Jaylon, a senior, won the weight throw (17-00.50), shot put (52-02) and discus throw (150-02) at the Los Alamitos Winter Qualifier. His discus throw is a CA winter leader.
Leo Young (Newbury Park/SS) - Leo, a senior bound for Stanford, won the USATF U20 Cross Country National Championship race, running the 8K course at Pole Green Park outside of Richmond, VA in 23:47, to beat a field full of college athletes to earn one of six spots on the U.S. team for the U20 World Championships next month in Australia.
