With winter track underway in the new year, we're wasting no time in acknowledging some of the top performers from this past weekend. We have selected eight outstanding athletes and put them on the line for you to select the first CA T&F Performer of the Week for 2023.

This week's candidates (listed alphabetically by last name)
Juan Chantaca (San Clemente/SS) - Juan, a senior, won the 1,500 meter run at the Cal State Fullerton Winter Championships Qualifier meet, running 4:10.50 to easily qualify for the CA Winter Championships on Feb. 4 at Arcadia HS.
Brandon Cheeks (Mission Bay/SD) - Brandon, a junior and a CIF-State Meet finalists in both horizontal jumps, won the triple jump at the Canyon Crest Academy Winter Qualifier with a best effort of 44-6, to easily qualify for the CA Winter Championships on Feb. 4 at Arcadia HS where he was runner-up last year as a sophomore.
Jordan Coleman (Granada Hills Charter/LA) - Jordan, a junior, swept the sprints at the South Pasadena Winter Championships Qualifier meet, winning the 60m (6.92), 150m (16.30) and the 300m (35.11), qualifying in all three for the CA Winter Championships on Feb. 4 at Arcadia HS.
Mark Cortes (Great Oak/SS) - Mark, a senior, rolled to victory in the 600-meter run at the Cal State Fullerton Winter Championships Qualifier meet, running 1:26.73 to qualify for the CA Winter Championships on Feb. 4 at Arcadia Hs.
Ethan Fong (Lincoln/SJ) - Ethan, a senior, was the top CA triple jumper at the annual LEAP Fest Jumps-Only Showcase, making the trip south from Stockton to jump 44-3.25 and challenge his PR in the event at Mater Dei HS.
Hayden Owen (St. Francis/SS) - Hayden a senior, ran the fastest 3,000 meters of the new year at the South Pasadena Winter Championships Qualifier meet, running 8:42.22 to easily qualifying for the Feb. 4 CA Winter Championships at Arcadia HS.
Adren Parker (Helix/SD) - Adren, a senior, was nearly a two-second winner in the 300-meter dash at the Canyon Crest Academy Winter Championships Qualifier, running 35.32, easily under the qualifying standard for the CA Winter Championships on Feb. 4 at Arcadia HS.
Brendon See (JSerra/SS) - Brendon, a senior, and the defending CIF-State champion in the discus throw, dropped a shot put bomb at the Cal State Fullerton Winter Championships Qualifier, throwing 60 feet, 8.50 inches to crush his PR and eclipse the CA Winter Championships qualifying standard by a whopping 16 feet, 8.50 inches!
