Congratulations to all 2022 boys for their selection onto the MileSplitCA All-State Boys Junior Track and Field Team! These selections were not easy. This is an extremely deep and talented class, warranting two full teams and more than 40 athletes recognized.

Athletes were selected based on rankings within the class as well as statewide rankings regardless of class for marks achieved during the 2021 outdoor season. Results at section finals, major invitationals, and post-CIF events were also strongly considered. 

Rankings and athlete PRs are based on marks in the MileSplit database.

U.S. rankings are within the boys class of 2022 unless noted.

FIRST TEAM


Daniel Appleford (Newbury Park/SS) - Distance

Ranks third in the class for 3200m and fifth in the class for 1600m/3200m combo times. His 3200m PR of 8:56.77 for ninth at Arcadia ranks U.S. No. 14. Also ran 9:04.03 for third at Sundown Track Series No. 3. Posted 4:15.51 PR for 1600m at MOC Distance Classic.

Delaney Crawford (Upland/SS) - Sprints/Hurdles

Dropped 36.64 at a league dual in April, the fastest 300mH time in the class that ranks U.S. No. 5 overall. Ran 14.08 (nwi) for 110mH, tied for U.S. No. 16 for all-conditions marks. Anchoredthe shuttle hurdle relay team that set the state record at Arcadia and the 4x100m relay team that ran a CA No. 3 time of 41.38.

Jai Dawson (Dana Hills/SS) - Distance

Posted 1600m PR of 4:09.26 for second at CIF-Southern Section Division 2 Finals, which ranks U.S. No. 10. Ran 800m best of 1:53.79 to win at Orange County Championships. Ranks No. 3 in the class for 800m/1600m combo times.

Elijha Ellis (Golden Valley/SS) - Jumps

All-conditions long jump best of 23-11.50 from a dual ranks U.S. No. 6 (ac). Went 23-10 to win the Foothill League title and placed fifth at CA State Champs (22-4). Went 43-9 to win league triple jump title.

Bryce Gilmore (Sage Creek/SD) - Distance

Ran 3200m PR of 8:58.82 for 15th at Arcadia, which ranks U.S. No. 25. Swept the 1600m (4:18.6) and 3200m (9:11.50) titles at CIF-San Diego Section Division 3 Finals. Has 1600m PR of 4:13.39 from Sundown Track Series No. 2. Ran 9:00.43 for second in the 3200m at Sundown Track Series No. 3.

Isaiah Givens (Pasadena/SS) - Distance

Ran 1600m PR of 4:07.00 at Sundown Track Series No. 3, which ranks U.S. No. 5. His 3200m best of 8:53.29 ranks U.S. No. 11. His 800m best of 1:53.01 for second at MOC Distance Classic is tied for U.S. No. 24.

Nick Godbehere (Shafter/CS) - Shot put

Undefeated in the shot put in 11 meets with wins at West Coast Relays (61-00 PR), Arcadia (59-01.75), CIF-Central Section South Regional (59-00), and CIF-CS Masters (60-11.5). PR ranks U.S . No. 10. 

Domani Jackson (Mater Dei/SS) - Sprints

Capped off limited outdoor season with a stunning 10.25 (1.7) at CA State Champs, a clocking that equals the 100m state record set in 1985. That time ranks U.S. No. 3 for all-conditions marks and U.S. No. 2 for wind-legal marks. He also won the 100m (10.48/0.8) at CIF-SS D-2 Finals.

Dequan January (Upland/SS) - Hurdles

His 110m hurdles PR of 14.20 (1.5) to win the Baseline League title is U.S. No. 15 (wind-legal marks) and tied for No. 28 (ac). A member of the shuttle hurdle relay team that set the state record at Arcadia, and the 4x100m relay team that ran a CA No. 3 time of 41.38.

Nathan Johnson (Clovis/CS) - Sprints/Jumps

He ran 10.49 (2.5) for 100m to win at the West Coast Relays. His wind-legal best of 10.52 (1.4) to win at CIF-Central Section Masters is tied for U.S. No. 16. Won CIF-CS Masters long jump title with a best of 22-9.25 (1.3), a mark that ranks U.S. No. 23 (wl).

Seth Johnson (Cajon/SS) - Hurdles/Jumps

Posted a time of 14.10 (0.2) in the 110m hurdles for second at CIF-SS D-1 Finals, a mark that ranks tied for U.S. No. 9 (wl), tied for No. 19 (ac). Cleared high jump best of 6-6.75 to win at Chandler Rotary. Also at CIF-SS D-1 Finals, placed second in the long jump (22-3.0 (0.1), and third in the high jump (6-4). 

Jeremy Kain (Scotts Valley/CC) - Distance

Ran his 1600m PR of 4:10.91 to win at CA State Champs, a time that ranks CA No. 4 in the class. That time also ranks U.S. No. 16. His previous best was 4:12.47 for fifth at CIF-CCS Finals. 

Jadyn Marshall (Stockton St. Mary's/SJ) - Hurdles

Swept the hurdles at Arcadia, incluing a 13.76 (1.2) PR in the 110s. That time ranks U.S. No. 1 (wl), U.S. No. 3 (ac). Also ran his 300mH season-best of 36.77 to win at Arcadia, a mark that is U.S. No. 5. Undefeated in nine 110mH races and five 300mH races.

Cade Moran (Murrieta Mesa/SS) - Throws

Shot put best of 63-1.75 at CA State Champs ranks U.S. No. 5. Discus best of 177-7 at a league dual ranks U.S. No. 26. At CIF-SS D-1 Finals, won the shot put (59-5.50) and placed second in the discus (172-11.). 

Camryn O'Bannon (St. John Bosco/SS) - Jumps/Sprints

Won the long jump at the CIF-SS D-3 Finals with a best of 23-10 (-0.2), a mark that ranks U.S. No. 2 (wl) and No. 10 (ac). Hit triple jump best of 46-9 (2.7) for second at Arcadia. Went 46-1.75 (-0.8) to win the CIF-SS D-3 title. Also at CIF-SS D-3, placed second in the 400m (49.42).

Yutaka Roberts (El Camino/CC) - Mid-Distance

Swept the 400m (49.56 PR) and 800m (1:53.32 PR) titles at the CIF-Central Coast Section Finals. 800m PR ranks CA No. 3. He went 1:55.25 for second at Arcadia. Went sub-1:54 in each of his final three meets. 

Colin Sahlman (Newbury Park/SS) - Distance

Ran 3200m PR of 8:43.42 to win at Arcadia in an epic race. That time ranks CA No. 9 all-time and is the current U.S. No. 1 overall. His 1600m PR of 4:03.58 from Sundown Track Series No. 3 ranks No. 16 in state history and U.S. No. 3 overall. Also has 800m best of 1:53.20.

Emanuel Salas (Sanger/CS) - Distance

Ran 800m best of 1:53.35 for third at MOC Distance Classic. 3200m PR of 8:57.73 for 13th at Arcadia ranks U.S. No. 21. Ran 1:53.96 for 800m to win at CIF-CS East Area Regional, and 4:13.79 to win at Sanger Metric.

JC Stevenson (Great Oak/SS) - Triple jump

Best of 48-10.50 (nwi) to win the Southwestern League title, ranks U.S. No. 3 (ac). Went 46-1.75 (1.7) for second at CA State Champs after winning CIF-SS D-1 title (46-1.50/0.2).

Cameron Tarver (Central/CS) - Sprints/Jumps

Ran 100m best of 10.53 (2.0) to win at TRAC Championships, a time that ranks U.S. No. 20 (wl). 200m best of 21.34 (1.9) for second at CIF-Central Section Masters is U.S. No. 18 (wl). All-conditions best of 21.25 (2.1) is tied for U.S. No. 27. All-conditions long jump PR of 23-6 (2.1) to win at Arcadia, ranks U.S. No. 19 (ac). Wind-legal long jump best of 22-7 (1.3) for second at CIF-CS Masters.

Max Thomas (Servite/SS) - Sprints

Wind-legal best of 10.52 (1.7) for third at CA State Champs is tied for U.S. No. 16. 200m best of 21.35 (-0.3) for second at CA State Champs is tied for U.S. No. 19 (wl). Won both the 100m (10.51/2.7) and 200m (21.44/2.6) titles at CIF-SS D-3 Finals.

Jeremiah Walker (Central/CS) - Sprints

Swept the 200m (21.02/1.9 PR) and 400m (48.50), while also anchoring both winning relay teams at CIF-Central Section Masters. His 200m PR ranks U.S. No. 7 (wl), No. 9 (ac). Ran 400m best of 47.43 at CA State Champs Prelims. Followed that with a victory in the final (47.64). Undefeated in his last nine 400m races and won four 200m titles. 


SECOND TEAM

Bryce Brock (Cathedral Catholic/SD) - Sprints - Ran 100m best of 10.56 (1.8) to win his division at Arcadia ranks U.S. No. 23 (wl).

David Brok (Los Alamitos/SS) - Pole Vault - Class best 15-9 from a league dual ranks tied for U.S. No. 15. 

Christian Burroughs (Ontario Christian/SS) - Throws - No. 2 combo thrower in the class. Discus throw best of 177-6.75 at a league meet ranks U.S. No. 27. Combined total of 232-1.75. Won both throws at CIF-SS D-4 Finals: 160-01 and 54-5.75. 

Justin Cardoza (Eastlake/SD) - High Jump - Cleared 6-8 to win the CIF-SDS Open Championships, a mark that is tied for U.S. No. 18.

Harrison Dance (Saratoga/CC) - Distance - 1600m PR of 4:12.26 for third at the CIF-Central Coast Section Finals ranks U.S. No. 26. 

Jaylen Durham (Hamilton/LA) - Hurdles - Swept the hurdles titles at the CIF-LAC Championships, winning the 110mH in 15.33 (-1.1) and the 300mH in a 40.84 PR. Ran 110mH PR of 15.15 at CA State Champs. 

Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco University/NC) - Jumps/Hurdles - Triple jump PR of 45-10.75 (3.2) for fourth at CA State Champs, long jump PR of 21-8 (nwi) to win at NorCal Championships, and 300m hurdles PR of 39.35 for fourth at CA State Champs. 

Patrick Ize-Iyamu (Chaminade College Prep/SS) - Sprints - Ran 100m PR of 10.47 (1.8) to win at Arcadia, which ranks tied for U.S. No. 21 (ac) and tied for U.S. No. 8 (wl). Ran 200m PR of 21.51 for third at Arcadia.

Evan Johnson (Robert Louis Stevenson/CC) - Sprints - Won the CIF-Central Coast Section title in both the 100m (10.85/-1.9) and 200m (22.10/-1.1).

Nathan Kent (Rocklin/SJ) - Sprints - Dropped 10.73/21.68/47.47 over two dual meets in March and didn't compete again.

Braden King (Jesuit/SJ) - Distance - 3200m PR of 8:56.89 from Arcadia ranks U.S. No. 15. Ran 800m PR of 1:55.35 for second at Marauder Invite. 

Sean Lacey (Bella Vista/SJ) - Distance - 3200m PR of 8:57.13 for 11th at Arcadia ranks U.S. No. 17. Followed that up with a 9:06.62 to win at Dublin (No. 3), and 9:03.11 for third at CA State Champs.

Leland Lieberg (St. Francis/SS) - Jumps - HJ best of 6-9 from a dual in April leads the class is tied for U.S. No. 9. Won CIF-SS D-3 title with a clearance of 6-4. Also cleared 6-4 for sixth place at CA State Champs. 

Alex Mader (Lick Wilmerding/NC) - Distance - 3200m PR of 8:57.34 for 12th at Arcadia ranks U.S. No. 18. 

Jake Parnagian (Clovis North/CS) - Sprints - Has 100m best of 10.59 (2.0), which ranks U.S. No. 24 (wl). Has 200m best of 21.27 (2.4) for second at TRAC Championship.

Xavier Peace (El Capitan/SD) - Sprints - Swept the 200m (22.64/1.0) and 400m (50.03) titles at CIF-SDS D-2 Finals. 

Jaden Smith (St. John Bosco/SS) - Sprints - Won the 400m title at CIF-SS D-3 Finals (49.01) and placed second in the 200m (21.85/2.6). 

Jason Thompson (Harvard Westlake/SS) - Triple Jump - All-conditions triple jump best of 47-2 to win at Arcadia, ranks U.S. No. 28 (ac). Has wind-legal best of 45-4.50 (0.1) for second at CIF-SS D-3. 

Andrew Trottier (Liberty/CS) - Throws - No. 3 combo thrower in the class with a total of 224-1.50. Hit PRs in both discus throw (168-9) and shot put (55-4.50) to place third in both at CIF-CS Masters.

Anthony Trucks (De La Salle/NC) - Hurdles - Placed third in both at NorCal Championships Ran 110mH PR of 14.66 at CA State Champs Prelims and 300mH PR of 39.43 at DVHS Sprint Festival.

Zaire Waring (Culver City/SS) - Sprints - Won the 400m title at CIF-SS D-2 Finals (48.36 PR) and was a finalist in the 200m. His 400m ranks CA No. 3 in the class.

Daniel Winter (Stockton St. Mary's/SJ) - Distance - 3200m PR of 8:58.02 for 14th at Arcadia ranks U.S. No. 23.
