Monte Vista Invitational - Eliminator is Conquered Once More

Twenty teams from across the area gathered at Oak Hill Park for the 36th running of the Monte Vista Invitational (start of the senior boy's race above).  Temps were warm, as always, but not as oppressive as previous editions.  Eight-grade level races were contested, with several "top ten" marks being posted.  For many runners, this was their first cross country race, and getting up and over the infamous "Eliminator Hill" in the second mile is undoubtedly an experience they'll long remember.  And be stronger for it!

On the girl's side, Junior Audrey Allen of Miramonte, running in the hottest part of the day, had the fastest time of all girls races with a 12:29.8 clocking.  This placed her as the #4 all-time in Junior Girls records and #9 all-time overall.  The days second-fastest clocking went to Kelli Wilson of Monte Vista who won the Senior race in 12:33.4.  The Sophomore Girls race was fast as well, with Las Lomas' Emma Tamamoto tying the 5th place all-time Sophomore mark, and Cal High's Madison Cavez grabbing the 9th best time. Rylee Guinn of Liberty won the Frosh race.

In unofficial combined team results, San Ramon Valley had the fastest team time, followed by Dougherty Valley and Liberty.

On the boy's side, while few top-ten marks fell, the races were hotly contested as well.  In fact, the very first race of the day required Shannon Sos of Diablo Timing to go to the photo-finish camera to determine the winner.  Nic Lewis of Liberty was shown to have just edged Arjun Subramanian of Foothill in a strong 11:17.9 clocking.  The fastest overall boys time went to Arnav Arora of Mission San Jose with a 10:57.4 mark in the Senior Boys race.   In the Freshman boys race, Shane Babcock of Doughtery Valley vaulted into the #5 frosh all-time mark with his 11:42.5 clocking.  Daniel Winter of St Marys - Stockton won the Sophomore Boys race.

Overall for the boys, Dougherty Valley dominated the day, followed by strong squads from Liberty and Newark Memorial.
