SPRINTS

LAUREN MEMOLY (Santa Margarita/SS) | 400/Long Jump/Relays | Her 54.97 PR from the State Meet Prelims ranks CA No. 2 in the class and U.S. No. 14 in the class. She earned a sixth-place medal in the State Meet Final, running 55.03, the third-fastest time on her resume. She won Southern Section Division 3 400m title (55.33) and followed that with a then-PR 54.99 for seventh at Southern Section Masters to qualify for the State Meet. She is the Southern Section D3 runner-up in the long jump (18-06.50) and has a PR of 18-08.50 that ranks CA No. 9 in the class. Member of both relays including the 4x100 relay that placed seventh at State (47.64). 

JAYMIE RUSKOVICH (Scripps Ranch/SD) | 100/200/Relays | Her 200m 24.30 (1.9) for second in the San Diego Section Final, ranks CA No. 3 for all conditions and CA No. 1 for wind-legal marks. She is a member of the State Meet champion 4x100 relay (46.51). She placed 11th in prelims at State in both the 100m and 200m. Ran her 100m PR of 11.87 to win the SDS Division 1 title. That mark is tied for CA No. 3 in the class.

AYSHA SHAHEED (Madison/SD) | 100/200 | Placed fourth at the State Meet in the 100m (11.76/1.6) and fifth in the 200m (24.17/1.6). State leader in the class in both sprints. Shaheed (whose first name is pronounced 'Asia') ran a 100m PR of 11.57 that ranks U.S. No. 6 in the class for all-conditions times. Her 24.16 PR for 200m ranks U.S. No. 17 for all-conditions times. 

KATRIINA WRIGHT (University City/SD) | 400 | State Meet champion in the 400m with the fastest time in the in the state regardless of class (53.93). That time ranks U.S. No. 4 in the class and U.S. No. 24 regardless of class. Wright won the 400m in 13 of 14 meets this season. She avenged her only loss -- to St. Bernard (SS) senior Sydney Bentley at the Willie Banks Invitational -- in the State Final. Wright is a two-time San Diego Section champion and State Meet qualifier in the 400.

ASJAH ATKINSON (St. Anthony/SS) | hurdles/jumps | Placed third at the State Meet in the 100 hurdles (13.84/2.9) to lead a group of five girls from the 2021 class that made the 100 hurdles final at State. It was her second year in a row qualifying for State in the hurdles (she placed seventh in the 100H final as a freshman). She placed sixth at State in the long jump with a PR of 19-04.50. The mark ranks No. 4 in the class. Atkinson won the Southern Section Division 4 title in the 100 hurdles (14.18) -- for the second consecutive year -- and the long jump (18-08.25). She also won the SS Masters Meet title in the 100 hurdles (14.08). 

JORDYN GRADY (Upland/SS) | 300H/100m | Placed fourth at the State Meet in the 300 hurdles (43.01) after running her PR of 42.80 at State Prelims, her first time running sub-43. That time ranks CA No. 2 in the class, No. 6 overall, and equals U.S. No. 7 in the class. Grady was the Southern Section Division 1 runner-up (44.71) behind eventual State Meet champion Rachel Glenn. Grady placed fourth at SS Masters (43.90). Her 100m PR of 11.57 ranks CA No. 2 in the class and equal to U.S. No. 19 in the class.

REESE RENZ (Bakersfield Liberty/CS) | 100H/300H/Relays/Long Jump | Placed third at the State Meet in the 300 hurdles (42.24) and sixth in the 100 hurdles (14.15/2.9). Her time from State in the 300H ranks CA No. 1 in the class and CA No. 3 overall. Her wind-legal best for 100 hurdles of 14.21 (0.9) for fifth at State Meet prelims, ranks CA No. 3 for wind-legal times. Renz is the Central Section Masters champion in both hurdles. Her long jump PR of 18-04.50 to win the CIF-Central Section South Area title, ranks CA No. 8 in the class for wind-legal jumps. Ran on the 4x400 relay that posted a season-best 3:50.01 for seventh in State Meet Prelims to earn a slot into the final. That time ranked CA No. 8 for the season. 

BELLA WITT (Calabasas/SS) | 100H/Sprints | Witt's 13.63 (0.5) for third at Arcadia is the state's fastest time in the class and fastest wind-legal time regardless of class. That time ranks tied for U.S. No. 13, regardless of class, for wind-legal marks.  She has a 200 PR of 24.49 (-0.4), which ranks CA No. 7 for all-conditions times, CA No. 5 wind-legal. Witt had her season cut short by disqualification after the league final. Her 100m PR of 11.90 (4.2) ranks CA No. 6 in the class for all conditions. Her 200m PR of 24.49 (-0.4) ranks CA No. 7 in the class. Her 300 hurdles PR (43.33) ranks CA No. 3 in the class.

MIA BARNETT (Village Christian/SS) | 1600/3200 | Medaled in the 1600m at the State Meet for the second year in a row, placing fourth in a PR time of 4:46.12. That time ranks CA No. 3 in the class and No. 5 overall. It also ranks U.S. No. 4 in the class and No. 14 overall. Her 3200 PR of 10:22.51 for second at the APU Distance Meet of Champions is No. 1 in the class, No. 7 overall, and No. 8 U.S. in the class. Doubled back in the 3200 at the State Meet and placed ninth (10:35.21).

MAKAYLA BROWNE (Riverside North/SS) | 800 | Won the Southern Section Masters Meet title with a PR 2:11.30. Only sophomore in the SS-Division 2 Final, placing third (2:14.14). Ran 2:12.85 to make the State Meet Final, where she placed eighth (2:13.17, 2.19 seconds off a top-six podium spot). PR ranks CA No. 3 and U.S. No. 20 in the class. 

JACQUELINE DUARTE (Chino Hills/SS) | 8001600 | State Meet champion for 1600m running CA No. 1 time of 4:42.58. That time ranks U.S. No. 1 in the class and U.S. No. 5 overall.  PR of 2:11.66 for 800 ranks CA No. 4 in the class. Southern Section Division 1 champion for 800 (2:11.66) and 1600 (4:50.35). She won nine consecutive 800m races before placing 11th at Southern Section Masters despite running 2:14.44, the third-fastest time on her resume. She won 10 of 12 1600m races. The only non-victories were SS Masters, where she placed third (4:50.46) and State Prelims, where she ran 4:51.59 for fifth among qualifiers. Ran 4:48.56 PR for the mile at the Mt. SAC Relays, the No. 4 time in the U.S. in the class.

AUDREY SUAREZ (Mayfield/SS) | 800/1600 | Medaled in the 1600m at the State Meet for the second consecutive year, placing third with a time of 4:45.00. That time ranks CA No. 2 in the class, No. 3 regardless of class, U.S. No. 3 in the class and No. 9 regardless of class. Ran 800m PR of 2:11.16 to win the Southern Section Division 4 title. That time ranks CA No. 2 in the class and No. 7 overall. It's also tied for U.S. No. 14 in the class. 

SAMANTHA WALLENSTROM (Marin Catholic/NC) | 800 | State Meet champion, winning with a 2:08.78 PR that ranks CA No. 1 overall and U.S. No. 7 in the class. Ran 1600m PR of 4:59.38 (CA No. 9) at Dublin Distance Fiesta. Won five of seven 800m races this spring, including the North Coast Section Redwood Empire Area title (for the second year in a row) and NCS Masters title, running a then-lifetime best 2:13.39 despite stopping briefly to help a fallen competitor before finishing. That spontaneous act of sportsmanship earned her CIF-State 'Pursuing Victory With Honor' acknowledgment at the State Meet Finals.

ASHLEY CALLAHAN (Rancho Bernardo/SD) | Pole Vault | State Meet champion in the event with a best of 13-03. Jumped her PR of 13-06 to win the Mt. SAC Relays. That mark is equal to No. 2 in CA, regardless of class, and tied for No. 1 CA in the class. That clearance is tied for U.S. No. 7 regardless of class and No. 3 U.S. for sophomore girls. Had the top mark in 13 meets this season, including the San Diego Section title. Improved year over year by 1 foot, 7 inches. 

JAYLA FLOWERS (Burbank/SS) | Triple Jump | Saved her best for last, jumping a PR 39-06 (2.0) to earn a fifth place medal at the State Championships. She exceeded 38 feet for the first time at the State Meet when she jump 39-01.25 in prelims to earn a spot into the final. She placed third in the Southern Section Division 1 final (38-05) and fourth at SS Masters (38-11.50). Her PR ranks CA No. 3 in the class and U.S. No. 9 in the class for wind-legal jumps.

JADE MCDONALD (Calabasas/SS) | Long Jump/Triple Jump/100H | Made the State Meet final in the long jump, triple jump and 100 hurdles. Placed fourth in the long jump with a PR 19-09.75. Placed seventh in the triple jump (39-00.50) and eighth in the 100H (14.50/2.9). She has the top mark in the class in the long jump (19-09.75/2.2) and No. 4 in the triple jump (39-04.75). Southern Section Division 2 champion in the long jump (19-05.75) and the triple jump and placed second in the 100H despite running a PR (14.29). Placed second in the SS Masters Meet in the long jump (19-03), third in the triple jump (39-00.75) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (14.33).

ELISE MILLER (San Pasqual/SD) | Triple Jump | San Diego Section Division 1 champion in the long jump and triple jump qualified for the State Meet Final in both. She has the top triple jump in the class (40-06) from winning the SDS title. That marks ranks U.S. No. 6 in the class. She then jumped 40-02.75 in State Meet Prelims and 40-02 to earn a third-place medal. Her long jump PR of 18-10.50 ranks CA No. 7 in the class. Miller won the SDS D1 title in the long jump (18-04.25) and went on to place ninth at State (18-06.25).

PAIGE SOMMERS (Westlake/SS) | High Jump/Pole Vault | Runner-up in the pole vault at the State Meet with a clearance of 13 feet. Cleared a PR of 13-06 to win the league title for the second year in a row. That mark is equal to No. 2 in CA, regardless of class, tied for No. 1 CA in the class, tied for U.S. No. 7 regardless of class and equal to No. 3 U.S. for sophomore girls. She has twice medaled at the State Meet in the pole vault and is a two-time Southern Section Masters Meet and Division 2 champion. In the high jump, cleared her PR of 5-06 to win the Southern Section Division 3 title. Cleared 5-04 at Masters to earn a trip to State in this event, too.

SUMMER STEVENSON (Great Oak/SS) | Triple Jump | No. 2 in the class with a best of 40-05 (0.9) for second at the Mt. SAC Relays. That time ranks U.S. No. 4 in the class for wind-legal jumps and U.S. No. 17wl regardless of class. Exceeded 40 feet to win the Southern Section Masters Meet (40-02). SS Division 1 champion (39-09).  Placed ninth in the State Meet Final (38-08.75). Won the league title in the long jump with a 19-05 PR that ranks CA No. 3 in the class. 

THROWS

FAITH BENDER (Bakersfield Liberty/CS) | Discus Throw/Shot Put | She is No. 1 U.S. in the class in both throws. In the discus, where she threw her PR of 168-06 for second at State, Bender ranks No. 2 in the U.S. among returners and No. 3 U.S. regardless of class. In the shot, where she set a PR of 47-04.75 to win the Central Section Masters title, Bender ranks U.S. No. 4 among returners and U.S. No. 13 overall.
