The MileSplitCA All-State teams are subjective selections with strong consideration given to CIF-State Meet qualification, top placing at section finals, season-long consistency at a high level, and versatility. Top marks within the class is a consideration but not a guarantee of making this list.

This installment of a 10-part series leading up to the overall MileSplitCA All-State teams focuses on girls in the class of 2021. And what a class it is!

Girls in the class of 2021 occupied 36 qualifying spots in State Meet finals, produced 21 medalists including four champions: Ashley Callahan (pole vault), Jacqueline Duarte (1600), Samantha Wallenstrom (800) and Katriina Wright (400).

The depth of excellence at the top of this class made it abnormally challenging to contain the team to 20 first team members and 20 honorable mentions. Medaling at the State Meet is among the priority criteria here. Versatility, extent of resume, top ranking in the class were also factors. Because of the strength of this class, simply qualifying for a State Meet final did not guarantee a spot on this team.

More than a year ago we knew this class was special. The results of 2019 proved that out to be true, and then some. While we can't wait to see what the 2021 girls will do next, let's first celebrate their accomplishments of 2019.
