Jett Charvet leads CA contingent at NB Indoor Nationals at The Armory

Defending CA 800m champion Jett Charvet of Heritage HS in Brentwood continued his championship work at that distance, winning the 800 title at the New Balance Nationals Indoor at The Armory in New York on Sunday.

Charvet, who won the CIF-State title early last June in 1:51.07, went even faster indoors, getting the best of 43 competitors across four heats in 1:50.91, the No. 2 indoor time in the U.S. this winter.

Ian Delgado of Cary, NC was second in 1:51.06.

Jason Gomez (Campbell (CA) Westmont HS) was fifth 1:51.86.

This is the second indoor victory for Charvet this winter. He also won over 800m at the Nike Boise Indoor on Feb. 2, running 1:54.10.

Carvet, bound for UCLA, was the only event champion among CA representatives during the three-day meet at The Armory this weekend.

San Jose Silver Creek's Arianna Fisher came closest to joining Charvet at NBNI champions, finishing second in the triple jump with at best of 42-00.

Also in the triple jump, Micah Fulton (Pasadena Muir) was fifth (40-11.75), freshman Jade McDonald (Santa Ana Mater Dei) was ninth (40-02.00), Dominique Ruotolo (Santa Ana Mater Dei) was 10th (39-07.25) and Jonon Young (Carson) was 13th in a 34-jumper field (39-01.25).

Ruotolo and Fulton also placed top-10 in the long jump, contested Saturday. Ruotolo was seventh (19-02) and Fulton eighth (18-11.25).

Maddy Denner (El Dorado Hills Oak Ridge), the defending CIF 1600m champion, was ninth in the mile in 4:54.66. Katelynne Hart (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was the winner (4:45.47). La Costa Canyon's McKenna Brown was 11th (4:58.11).

Upland's Jada Hicks was fifth in the final of the 60m hurdles (8.28). Gardena Serra junior Jazmyne Frost reached the final in the 200m where she placed sixth in 24.43. They both had to get through preliminary heats to reach the championship field.

Sophomore Malcolm Clemons (Berkeley St. Mary's College HS) was seventh in the boys long jump (23-00) and Menlo's Robert Miranda was 15th in the boys mile (4:17.57).
